Conservative senator blasted for pro-family stance

A Utah state senator has been disciplined over remarks about homosexual activism.

State Senator Chris Buttars recently commented to a documentary filmmaker that he believes the homosexual lifestyle is immoral, adding that militant homosexual activism poses a grave threat to American culture. Matt Barber, director of cultural affairs at Liberty Counsel, says Utah's Senate president Michael Waddoups caved in and took punitive action against Buttars instead of supporting his own constituent. ( Conservative senator blasted for pro-family stance  )

"What's unfortunate is the Republican leadership has thrown him under the bus," he contends. "Senator Buttars' comments and beliefs are shared by the vast majority, certainly of Utahans, and by the conservative majority of Americans."

Waddoups has removed Buttars from his post as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, a move which Barber calls a validation of the radical left-wing agenda. Barber believes action taken against Buttars indicates the Republican Party is deserting the traditional values that helped make it strong.
(I thought this was America. Also if the GOP stops backing traditional values,  value based voters may leave the party. )

Obama to rescind Bush abortion rule

The Obama administration is moving to rescind a federal rule that reinforced protections for medical providers who refuse to perform abortions and other procedures on moral grounds.

A Health and Human Services official said Friday the administration will publish an official notice of its intentions early next week, and open a 30-day comment period for advocates, medical groups, and the public. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the notice has not been finalized.

(I thought those in this White House and those on the radical left were pro choice. Yet, they aren't giving that choice  to medical workers. This is an outrage. I guess pro. choice does mean pro abortion.  Read more on this issue right here.)

Vatican: bishop's apology on Holocaust not enough

The Vatican said Friday that the apology issued by an ultraconservative bishop who denied the Holocaust was not good enough to admit him into the Catholic Church as a clergyman.

Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said Bishop Richard Williamson's statement "doesn't appear to respect the conditions" the Vatican set out for him.

In an interview broadcast last month on Swedish state TV, Williamson denied 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, saying 200,000 or 300,000 were murdered. He said none were gassed.

Williamson apologized for his remarks on Thursday, saying he would never have made them if he had known "the full harm and hurt to which they would give rise."

But he did not say his comments had been erroneous, nor that he no longer believed them.
(Good for the Vatican. This man should not be in spiritual leadership in any church until he truly admits how wrong he is for blessing hate. Read the rest of the above story Vatican: bishop's apology on Holocaust not enough.)

Colo. reconsiders ticket issued to good Samaritan

The Colorado State Patrol is reconsidering the jaywalking ticket issued to a good Samaritan who was seriously injured by a pickup after he pushed three people out of its path. (      Colo. reconsiders ticket issued to good Samaritan          )
Bus driver Jim Moffett and another man were helping two elderly women cross a busy Denver street in a snowstorm when he was hit Feb. 20.
the patrol said Thursday it is "re-examining the investigation" and reviewing the tickets with prosecutors. The pickup driver was cited for careless driving resulting in injury.

(I am glad that smarter heads are thinking of not giving this good samaritan a ticket. Yes we have laws but key is how we enforce them and when we enforce them.)

Chinese officials seize home of Christian2

The government-sanctioned church in China is being accused of working with communist officials to persecute unregistered house churches.
Last month, officials from the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, Religious Affairs Bureau, and the Public Security Bureau confiscated the home of 54-year-old Chang Fenying. For several years, her home was the site of underground, unregistered house church meetings.

(Read more of the above story and my thoughts on it,  Chinese officials seize home of Christian.)

DC Opportunity Scholarship Program Ending Under Obama

Disadvantaged children in the District of Columbia will be losing an educational lifeline if a new spending bill is passed on Capitol Hill. At the same time, abortionists and homosexual activists stand to gain from the Omnibus bill.

Dan Lips, a senior policy analyst with The Heritage Foundation, warns that the new Omnibus bill -- passed by the House on Wednesday essentially along party lines -- will terminate the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program. Currently the program is serving 1,700 children with scholarships up to $7,500.

"This program is simply changing their lives," states Lips. "It's giving these children who are among the poorest in the community in Washington, DC, an opportunity to attend a private school of their parent's choice."

The benefits have been noticeable, says Lips. "[T]he evaluations that have been done of this program have shown that parents are more satisfied with their child's new school's safety and learning environment than they otherwise were when the child was in public school," he shares. "This is a program that is making a terrific difference in these children's lives.

(Those who say the left cares about those who have needs, need to read this story. Why is it those on the left are only pro choice before the child is born. Kids and parents shouldn't be  trapped in schools which have failed them. Read more of this story Omnibus bill - kids lose, liberals win.)

BIG BUCKS TO CANOES & TATTOOS...

Congress went on a pork-a-palooza yesterday, approving a massive spending bill with big bucks for Hawaiian canoe trips, research into pig smells, and tattoo removal - all while the nation faces an economic crisis. ( CONGRESS: BIG BUCKS TO CANOES & TATTOOS   )

Among the recipients of federal largesse is the Polynesian Voyaging Society of Honolulu, which got a $238,000 "earmark" in the bill.

(This is the kind of thing which should make every tax payer ill. We are told these are tough times but yet this White House and congress wants to make us pay for a lot of pork.)

Obama ends tax cuts for rich Americans

US President Barack Obama has announced that tax cuts for America's wealthiest -- who constitute 2 per cent of the entire population -- will end. (   Obama ends tax cuts for rich Americans   )

"In order to save our children from a future of debt, we will also end the tax breaks for the wealthiest 2 per cent of Americans," Obama said in his maiden speech to the US Congress on Tuesday.

(I like what Sean Hannity said about never getting a job from a poor person. Why should people be punished for being successful in life. That is not the American way but that is the way of the left and the way  of President Obama.)

Houston considers paying CREDIT CARD balances for some residents...

Mayor Bill White this afternoon announced that a plan for the city to pay off some debts for first-time home buyers has been pulled from tomorrow's City Council agenda. (Houston considers paying CREDIT CARD balances for some residents...  )

Council members are now professing their "embarrassment" about the proposal, which has hit the national news circuit, including drudgereport.com., which picked up this morning's Houston Chronicle story about the plan

"This issue has hit a nerve across this country," said Councilwoman Anne Clutterbuck. "Not just here in the city of Houston.

(We are moving ahead with more big brother. Why should the government bail people out who have made bad choices.)

Taxing pot could become a political toking point...

Reporting from Sacramento -- Could Cannabis sativa be a salvation for California's fiscal misfortunes? Can the state get a better budget grip by taxing what some folks toke?

An assemblyman from San Francisco announced legislation Monday to do just that: make California the first state in the nation to tax and regulate recreational marijuana in the same manner as alcohol.

(There is a big difference between pot and alcohol. People can drink alcohol without being impacted not the same with pot. Also alcohol is lawful pot is not. Read more on this subject Taxing pot could become a political toking point.)
