Legal concerns spark cancelation of Christmas parade

An Ohio village's Christmas parade has been canceled amid concerns over possible lawsuits, protests, and logistical problems.

Amelia Mayor Leroy Ellington says the village solicitor told council members that Amelia could be sued for using public money to sponsor an event linked to celebrating the birth of Jesus.

But when the village considered changing the Christmas parade to a "holiday" parade, people protested and a local church withdrew permission to use its parking lot as a staging area.

(I believe it is too bad that government always backs down when someone warns they might take a body of government to court over the name of Jesus. But on the other hands why do us who are people of faith depend on government to bless our faith instead we should put our focus on honoring our Lord everyday including around Christmas no matter what our government does. Iran Hostage Says America Should Talk to Iran

A yellow ribbon -- ceramic to withstand the passage of time -- still hangs from the old oak tree in L. Bruce Laingen's front yard, a 30-year-old reminder of the Minnesota farm boy's ordeal as the highest-ranking diplomat among 52 U.S. Embassy workers held hostage in Iran for 444 days.

It dangles by a string as frayed as the memories of that Iranian hostage crisis, which introduced the United States to militant Islam.

To Laingen, now 87, little has changed in America's relationship over those years with that autocratic regime. As the 30thanniversary of the embassy takeover by radical Iranian students approaches Wednesday, three American hikers -- one who grew up in Minnesota -- are being held there without charges.

Laingen decries the regime's continuing failures: June's tainted elections, the brutal repression of protests and subsequent show trials.

Despite all of that, Laingen remains as certain as he was three decades ago that engaging with Iran is the right approach for the United States.

"I've been an advocate of engagement with Iran since the hour I left," Laingen said in an interview last week in his suburban Bethesda, Md., home. "I meant it then and I've said it ever since. I'm deeply grateful now that we're beginning to maybe talk to them."

To Laingen, ever the diplomat, that's not a slam on the more hawkish stance of former President George W. Bush, who included Iran in his Axis of Evil.

"He did what was possible at the time," Laingen said of Bush. "I don't believe he should have made any particular steps to acquiesce in what the Iranians were asking of us."

But in Laingen's view, the Iranian Revolution of the late Ayatollah Khomeini remains a work in progress, and the renewed stirrings of a new generation of Iranian youth present an opening that the U.S. president should encourage -- from afar.

"I believe in regime change, but conducted internally, by them," Laingen said.

(My heart goes out to all those who were held hostage in Iran. However we have got to be careful  when talking to people like the leaders of Iran something I don't think Laingen  understands. People who are evil and say the  Holocaust  never happened can't be trusted. If we trust them we and state of Israel will be sorry. After flurry of stimulus spending, questionable projects pile up...

The $787 billion stimulus bill was passed in February and was promised as a job saver and economy booster. Here is where some of the money went:

- $300,000 for a GPS-equipped helicopter to hunt for radioactive rabbit droppings at the Hanford nuclear reservation in Washington state.

- $30 million for a spring training baseball complex for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

- $11 million for Microsoft to built a bridge connecting its two headquarter campuses in Redmond, Wash., which are separated by a highway.

- $430,000 to repair a bridge in Iowa County, Wis., that carries 10 or fewer cars per day.

- $800,000 for the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, Pa., serving about 20 passengers per day, to built a backup runway.

- $219,000 for Syracuse University to study the sex lives of freshmen women.

(So this is what President Obama meant about bringing change to America and giving us an  economy booster. Reading  this makes you feel great about paying taxes to Uncle Sam doesn't it? Not! Read more from the  list on how your tax money  is being wasted.)

RISE OF THE REPUBLICAN?

Republicans appear positioned for strong results in three hard-fought elections Tuesday. But isolated, off-year contests aren't always reliable indicators of what will happen in the wider federal and state races held in even-numbered years.

Democrats and Republicans are jostling to glean messages from voters in a race for a U.S. House seat in far northern New York, as well as from contests for governor in New Jersey and Virginia. Republicans, increasingly optimistic, say the contests foreshadow trouble for President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party's ambitious agenda heading toward the 2010 congressional elections.

"We will be looking very closely at the results in these three races and reminding Democrats of the message they send about the agenda that they are forcing on American taxpayers," said Paul Lindsay, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, which coordinates GOP House races. ( RISE OF THE REPUBLICAN? )

A Republican sweep in Tuesday's key contests would at minimum show that Democrats face much tougher political terrain than they did a year ago.

(We never know what will happen until the votes are added up. However if the Republicans   win big  today it will be taken as a big set back to do what President Obama and the left wants to do to America. At the same time  Republicans can't just attack Obama they have to show that they have better answers than those on the left do. They also must get back to their core values including right to life, lower taxes, and defending America no matter what the world thinks of us.)

Plea deal in abortion scuffle

One of two women accused of scrapping with an anti-abortion protester in front of Flagstaff City Hall has decided to accept six months of unsupervised probation to make the charges go away.

Denise Redsteer, 48, accepted a "deferred prosecution" Friday in Flagstaff Municipal Court, said City Prosecutor Lisa Stankovich. Deferred prosecution does not admit guilt, and if Redsteer successfully completes the terms of her probation, the charges against her will be dismissed.

(My question is where has the media been on this issue? I have not heard much about this. If it had been the under way around and a so called pro life soul who had attacked somebody who was pro abortion it would have been all over the news. Just look all the reporting there was when Dr. Tiller was sadly murdered. That and this should prove that most of the media is in the pocket of the pro abortion movement. Clinton offers aid to help boost Muslim ties

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered aid on Tuesday to boost ties with the Muslim world and urged Israel, the Palestinians and Arab countries to move beyond recrimination in the search for peace.

"We are determined and persistent in the pursuit of that goal," she said in a speech at a development forum in Morocco attended by Arab ministers.

After a weekend of heated words about the perceived U.S. tilt toward Israel on the issue of settlements on the occupied West Bank, Clinton said it was important for all sides to "be careful about what we say" and avoid angry rhetoric.

"We need to work together in a constructive spirit toward this shared goal of a comprehensive peace. I believe very strongly that it is attainable ... (and) that with your support we can find a way through.

(My question Ms. Clinton is how can you sit down with souls who want you dead. Perhaps in her thinking the Jewish people should have sat down with evil Hitler. Read more of the above news story Clinton offers aid to help boost Muslim ties)

Suit concerning 'flying imams' settled

A Messianic Jewish leader is saddened that because of political correctness, Muslims can be rewarded for behavior that would not be tolerated from any other group.
Recently a settlement was reached involving the so-called "flying imams," US Airways, and the FBI. On November 20, 2006, half a dozen Muslim clerics were kicked off a US Airways Minneapolis-to-Phoenix flight after engaging in behavior that alarmed passengers and crew members before takeoff.

Following the incident, the Council on American-Islamic Relations came to aid the imams and filed a suit. Both sides recently announced that an undisclosed out-of-court settlement had been reached.
Jan Markell, founder and director of Minnesota-based Olive Tree Ministries, explains that the imams "got paid off."  (Suit concerning 'flying imams' settled )

"That sends a message that because of our liberal courts and our political correctness and pro-Islam this and pro-Islam that, you can try to get away with all sorts of things if you're a Muslim in America," she argues. "Not every Muslim in America is planning on bowing down and praying in their local airport and praising Allah, scaring the daylights out of everyone. But a whole bunch of them did here in the Twin Cities a couple of years ago, and that story has finally come to a conclusion, but [it was] a very sad one."
(If another 911 takes place I think  our liberal courts should take at least some of the blame. Today we don't want to upset anyone even if it is a radical follower of Islam. )

Pensioner's letter deemed 'homophobic'

An elderly British couple is in hot water over comments they made about homosexuality.
British flag smallPauline Howe, a 67-year-old pensioner, suffered verbal abuse from homosexuals while she passed out Christian leaflets at a "gay pride" event in Norwich. In objection to the abuse she suffered, she wrote a letter to the city's top official. Police soon replied to her letter with a personal visit.
The officers explained to Howe that her letter was considered homophobic and could be treated as a hate incident. They also said she might be cited on criminal charges based on the country's hate crimes laws, the Human Rights Act. Howe feels religious freedom for Britain is at stake.

Also at risk is "the authority of God's Word," the pensioner says. "We're not allowed to express our biblical, evangelical beliefs anymore without being frightened, quite frankly."
(Thanks to those on the left look out for this to happen here in America because last week a hate crime law passed in congress and President Obama was quick to put his name on it. Read more on this issue by clicking  right here.)

Dobson leaving radio show

Dr. James Dobson, the voice of Focus on the Family, will no longer host its flagship radio broadcast and is cutting formal ties with the Christian ministry he founded more than 30 years ago.

Focus on the Family says its board of directors and Dobson agreed on the moves, which will go into effect at the end of February. A spokesman for the evangelical ministry says the parting is amicable and the 73-year-old Dobson's "health and attitude are great." ( Dobson leaving radio show)

(At times I thought Dr. Dobson put too much faith in politics and made  too much focus of  his radio program  politics. I agreed with him on the so called culture issues. At the same time I admire how he ran his ministry and how he never put his name on any of the buildings because he didn't want the ministry to be about him. I wish him well as he goes to the next step in his life and wish Focus on the Family the best. May God bless and  keep useing  Dr. Dobson  and the ministry of Focus on the Family.)

'Moderate' Republican backs Democratic opponent

A day after Republican state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava abruptly suspended her campaign in the New York special election, she's endorsing the liberal Democrat in the race -- not the Conservative Party candidate favored by fellow Republicans.

Following her surprise exit in the race for the rock-solid Republican congressional seat, Scozzafava said Sunday that Democrat Bill Owens is the best of the remaining candidates to build on the legacy of the previous holder of the 23rd Congressional District seat -- Republican John McHugh, who has taken a position in the Obama administration.

(I wonder what the leadership in the Republican Party who backed this so called Republican are thinking now that she is backing the Democrat. It sounds to me like she was Republican in name only. She should join that party.  Read more on this story 'Moderate' Republican backs Democratic opponent.)

Planned Parenthood Leader Resigns After Watching Ultrasound of Abortion Procedure

Here is a video of a news report of a Planned Parenthood worker who had her heart and mind changed on abortion after seeing an ultrasound of  an unborn child. She quit her job and joined  the fight for the right to life. Guess what the folks at Planned Parenthood did? Of course they went  to court. I guess some who are pro choice when it comes to the killing of children aren't pro choice when it comes to one of their own having  a change of heart. Watch the video right here
