An elderly British couple is in hot water over comments they made about homosexuality.
Pauline Howe, a 67-year-old pensioner, suffered verbal abuse from homosexuals while she passed out Christian leaflets at a "gay pride" event in Norwich. In objection to the abuse she suffered, she wrote a letter to the city's top official. Police soon replied to her letter with a personal visit.
The officers explained to Howe that her letter was considered homophobic and could be treated as a hate incident. They also said she might be cited on criminal charges based on the country's hate crimes laws, the Human Rights Act. Howe feels religious freedom for Britain is at stake.
Also at risk is "the authority of God's Word," the pensioner says. "We're not allowed to express our biblical, evangelical beliefs anymore without being frightened, quite frankly."
