14 years later, debate continues on Abortion Law

The Illinois parental notification law for abortions on underage children is back in court.

The law passed in 1995 has been tossed around by the courts in one fashion or another since implementation of the statute was blocked -- that is, until a federal appeals court recently approved it and ordered its implementation.

"Now the ACLU has run into court again, and they're asking that the law be stopped by a state court on the basis that our state constitution creates its own right of abortion," Brechja reports.

(What is wrong with the ACLU that it doesn’t parents to know before their under age children have an abortion. If the child gets sick after an abortion is the ACLU going to call 911, or a doctor. Of course not! The ACLU is just in the pockets of  the pro death camp. Read more on this issue  Illinois abortion law.)

A Catholic nun is acting as a patient escort at an abortion clinic

A Catholic nun is acting as a patient escort at an Illinois abortion clinic. The Dominican nun's active support has been going on for a number of years, according to Ann Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League.

"Sister Donna Quinn is one of those, what we would like to call renegade nuns, who go[es] against the grain of what the Catholic Church teaches, and [she] actually supports a woman's choice of having an abortion," reports Scheidler. "She's been active in opposing pro-life missions for a long time." (
A sisterly escort, an unlikely place)

( As a non Catholic it looks like this nun should leave the ministry and perhaps the Catholic Church if she is going to back the murder of unborn children.)

Traditional marriage now 31-0

Voters in Maine have rejected an effort by lawmakers there to impose homosexual "marriage" in that state.

Gay marriage has now lost in every single state -- 31 in all -- in which it has been put to a popular vote. Gay-rights activists had hoped to buck that trend in Maine -- known for its liberal-minded electorate -- and mounted an energetic, well-financed campaign. With 87 percent of the precincts reporting, proponents of traditional marriage had 53 percent of the votes.

"The institution of marriage has been preserved in Maine and across the nation," declared Frank Schubert, chief organizer for the winning side.

(It is funny that even states which are mostly to the left when it comes to politics have rejected same sex marriage. I guess on this issue people are putting things like family, faith, and tradition ahead of politics. Good for them. Read more on this issue  Traditional marriage now 31-0.)

Dem Wins New York House Race...

Democrat Bill Owens has captured the special election for a New York congressional seat that became a fight over the identity of the Republican Party.

Owens defeated Conservative Doug Hoffman and Republican Dierdre Scozzafava (skoh-zuh-FAH'-vuh) in the heavily Republican 23rd congressional District in rural northern New York. Scozzafava abruptly withdrew Saturday and supported Owens. (Dem Wins New York House Race...  )

(Even though this is too bad for us on the right and I believe for America,  still I will take the Democrat winning because the Republican who dropped out was on the left. Why have two different parties if  there is no difference.)

Maine voters reject gay-marriage law...

Cecelia Burnett and Ann Swanson had already set their wedding date. When they joined about 1,000 other gay marriage supporters for an election night party in a Holiday Inn ballroom, they hoped to celebrate the vote that would make it possible.

Instead, they went home at midnight, dejected and near tears after a failed bid to make Maine the first state to approve same-sex marriage at the ballot box.

"I'm ready to start crying," said Burnett, a 58-year-old massage therapist, walking out of the ballroom with Swanson at her side. "I don't understand what the fear is, why people are so afraid of this change.

"It hurts. It hurts personally," she said. "It's a personal rejection of us and our relationship, and I don't understand what the fear is."

(This was not a vote against anyone or about fear. It was a vote about what is best for America and  our culture. I may not agree with the gay life but no one is stopping anyone from having a relationship with another soul if it be a man or a woman. If we allow  same sex marriage what about someone who wants to marry five people, or marry their dog. Read more of the above story  right here.)

REPUBLICAN TAKES VA BY 18%...

Independents who swept Barack Obama to a historic 2008 victory broke big for Republicans on Tuesday as the GOPwrested political control from Democrats in Virginia and New Jersey, a troubling sign for the president and his party heading into an importantmidterm election year.

Conservative Republican Bob McDonnell's victory in the Virginia governor's race over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds and moderate Republican Chris Christie's ouster of unpopular New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine was a double-barreled triumph for a party looking to rebuild after being booted from power in national elections in 2006 and 2008. (REPUBLICAN TAKES VA BY 18%...  )

The outcomes of Virginia and New Jersey were sure to feed discussion about the state of the electorate, the status of the diverse coalition that sent Obama to the White House and the limits of the president's influence — on the party's base of support and on moderate current lawmakers he needs to advance his legislative priorities.

His signature issue of health care reform was dealt a blow hours before polls closed when Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid signaled that Congress may not complete health care legislation this year, missing Obama's deadline and pushing debate into a congressional election year.

(The people have spoken. They have said we don't want government taking over our lives from health care to bail outs. Now the Republicans will have keep their focus on their core values or the voters will put them out of office.)

Legal concerns spark cancelation of Christmas parade

An Ohio village's Christmas parade has been canceled amid concerns over possible lawsuits, protests, and logistical problems.

Amelia Mayor Leroy Ellington says the village solicitor told council members that Amelia could be sued for using public money to sponsor an event linked to celebrating the birth of Jesus.

But when the village considered changing the Christmas parade to a "holiday" parade, people protested and a local church withdrew permission to use its parking lot as a staging area.

(I believe it is too bad that government always backs down when someone warns they might take a body of government to court over the name of Jesus. But on the other hands why do us who are people of faith depend on government to bless our faith instead we should put our focus on honoring our Lord everyday including around Christmas no matter what our government does. Read more on this issue Legal concerns spark cancelation of Christmas parade.)

Iran Hostage Says America Should Talk to Iran

A yellow ribbon -- ceramic to withstand the passage of time -- still hangs from the old oak tree in L. Bruce Laingen's front yard, a 30-year-old reminder of the Minnesota farm boy's ordeal as the highest-ranking diplomat among 52 U.S. Embassy workers held hostage in Iran for 444 days.

It dangles by a string as frayed as the memories of that Iranian hostage crisis, which introduced the United States to militant Islam.

To Laingen, now 87, little has changed in America's relationship over those years with that autocratic regime. As the 30thanniversary of the embassy takeover by radical Iranian students approaches Wednesday, three American hikers -- one who grew up in Minnesota -- are being held there without charges.

Laingen decries the regime's continuing failures: June's tainted elections, the brutal repression of protests and subsequent show trials.

Despite all of that, Laingen remains as certain as he was three decades ago that engaging with Iran is the right approach for the United States.

"I've been an advocate of engagement with Iran since the hour I left," Laingen said in an interview last week in his suburban Bethesda, Md., home. "I meant it then and I've said it ever since. I'm deeply grateful now that we're beginning to maybe talk to them."

To Laingen, ever the diplomat, that's not a slam on the more hawkish stance of former President George W. Bush, who included Iran in his Axis of Evil.

"He did what was possible at the time," Laingen said of Bush. "I don't believe he should have made any particular steps to acquiesce in what the Iranians were asking of us."

But in Laingen's view, the Iranian Revolution of the late Ayatollah Khomeini remains a work in progress, and the renewed stirrings of a new generation of Iranian youth present an opening that the U.S. president should encourage -- from afar.

"I believe in regime change, but conducted internally, by them," Laingen said.

(My heart goes out to all those who were held hostage in Iran. However we have got to be careful  when talking to people like the leaders of Iran something I don't think Laingen  understands. People who are evil and say the  Holocaust  never happened can't be trusted. If we trust them we and state of Israel will be sorry. After flurry of stimulus spending, questionable projects pile up...

The $787 billion stimulus bill was passed in February and was promised as a job saver and economy booster. Here is where some of the money went:

- $300,000 for a GPS-equipped helicopter to hunt for radioactive rabbit droppings at the Hanford nuclear reservation in Washington state.

- $30 million for a spring training baseball complex for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

- $11 million for Microsoft to built a bridge connecting its two headquarter campuses in Redmond, Wash., which are separated by a highway.

- $430,000 to repair a bridge in Iowa County, Wis., that carries 10 or fewer cars per day.

- $800,000 for the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, Pa., serving about 20 passengers per day, to built a backup runway.

- $219,000 for Syracuse University to study the sex lives of freshmen women.

(So this is what President Obama meant about bringing change to America and giving us an  economy booster. Reading  this makes you feel great about paying taxes to Uncle Sam doesn't it? Not! Read more from the  list on how your tax money  is being wasted.)

RISE OF THE REPUBLICAN?

Republicans appear positioned for strong results in three hard-fought elections Tuesday. But isolated, off-year contests aren't always reliable indicators of what will happen in the wider federal and state races held in even-numbered years.

Democrats and Republicans are jostling to glean messages from voters in a race for a U.S. House seat in far northern New York, as well as from contests for governor in New Jersey and Virginia. Republicans, increasingly optimistic, say the contests foreshadow trouble for President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party's ambitious agenda heading toward the 2010 congressional elections.

"We will be looking very closely at the results in these three races and reminding Democrats of the message they send about the agenda that they are forcing on American taxpayers," said Paul Lindsay, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, which coordinates GOP House races. ( RISE OF THE REPUBLICAN? )

A Republican sweep in Tuesday's key contests would at minimum show that Democrats face much tougher political terrain than they did a year ago.

(We never know what will happen until the votes are added up. However if the Republicans   win big  today it will be taken as a big set back to do what President Obama and the left wants to do to America. At the same time  Republicans can't just attack Obama they have to show that they have better answers than those on the left do. They also must get back to their core values including right to life, lower taxes, and defending America no matter what the world thinks of us.)

Plea deal in abortion scuffle

One of two women accused of scrapping with an anti-abortion protester in front of Flagstaff City Hall has decided to accept six months of unsupervised probation to make the charges go away.

Denise Redsteer, 48, accepted a "deferred prosecution" Friday in Flagstaff Municipal Court, said City Prosecutor Lisa Stankovich. Deferred prosecution does not admit guilt, and if Redsteer successfully completes the terms of her probation, the charges against her will be dismissed.

(My question is where has the media been on this issue? I have not heard much about this. If it had been the under way around and a so called pro life soul who had attacked somebody who was pro abortion it would have been all over the news. Just look all the reporting there was when Dr. Tiller was sadly murdered. That and this should prove that most of the media is in the pocket of the pro abortion movement. Clinton offers aid to help boost Muslim ties

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered aid on Tuesday to boost ties with the Muslim world and urged Israel, the Palestinians and Arab countries to move beyond recrimination in the search for peace.

"We are determined and persistent in the pursuit of that goal," she said in a speech at a development forum in Morocco attended by Arab ministers.

After a weekend of heated words about the perceived U.S. tilt toward Israel on the issue of settlements on the occupied West Bank, Clinton said it was important for all sides to "be careful about what we say" and avoid angry rhetoric.

"We need to work together in a constructive spirit toward this shared goal of a comprehensive peace. I believe very strongly that it is attainable ... (and) that with your support we can find a way through.

(My question Ms. Clinton is how can you sit down with souls who want you dead. Perhaps in her thinking the Jewish people should have sat down with evil Hitler. Read more of the above news story Clinton offers aid to help boost Muslim ties)
