LA pushes to get repaid for $3M Jackson memorial 12:01

The Los Angeles city attorney still plans to seek reimbursement of the $3 million the city spent for the Michael Jackson memorial, a spokesman said Monday, despite an audit concluding the event pumped even more dollars into the local economy.

The July 7 memorial at Staples Center was a $4 million boon for local hotels, restaurants and other businesses, according to the report released Friday from the city's chief legislative analyst and city administrative officer. The City Council's Public Safety Committee was expected to review the report Monday.

City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is still committed to seeking reimbursement from Staples owner Anschutz Entertainment Group, or AEG

(I am sorry M.J. died but the tax payers of LA should not be the ones  who pay for the memorial. When my dad died it was our family which paid for his service. The ones who put the service on for M.J. or his family should pay for it not the hard working tax payers in LA. Read more on this issue LA pushes to get repaid for $3M Jackson memorial .)

Rep. Kennedy and Bishop in Bitter Rift on Abortion

(Below is part of a story from the New York Times.)

Representative Patrick J. Kennedy of Rhode Island was to meet Thursday with Thomas J. Tobin, the Roman Catholic bishop of Providence, and perhaps start healing a bitter rift over whether health care legislation now before Congress should restrict abortion coverage.

Instead, they postponed the meeting, and Bishop Tobin stepped up his public rebuke of Mr. Kennedy, accusing him Wednesday of “false advertising” for describing himself as a Catholic and saying he should not receive holy communion because he supports using taxpayer money for abortions.

“If you freely choose to be a Catholic, it means you believe certain things, you do certain things,” Bishop Tobin said on WPRO, a Providence radio station. “If you cannot do all that in conscience, then you should perhaps feel free to go somewhere else.”

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has lobbied forcefully against including federal financing for abortion in the health care legislation, and Bishop Tobin, who has led the Catholic Church in Rhode Island since 2005, has been a vocal participant.

(While I believe things like this are best handled behind doors. There is a point to made about faith here. When you and I join a faith or church we can't pick what  we like about it and reject what we don't like about it. I am  follower of Jesus which means I believe the Bible is God's word. I can't just accept the part of the Bible that talks about a  loving God and heaven  but I must also accept what the book teaches about sin and hell. )

Obama condemned for indifference to China church persecution

As President Barack Obama prepares for his first visit to China, leaders of the unapproved churches there are condemning his administration for indifference to the increasing persecution they are facing.

The latest example of that persecution came Sunday as followers of an unapproved church in Beijing were again forced by the government to find a new place to worship.

Worship in China, governed by the officially atheist Communist Party, is allowed only in state-approved churches, but millions of people belong to unregistered churches that often face official harassment.

Sunday's banishment was the latest for the Shouwang church, one of the largest underground churches in China with about 800 members.

(Too many leaders  here in America forget about people of faith who are suffering around the world. This is done by leaders  of  both  major parties. Those of us who are people of faith must never forget to pray for those who are suffering around the world because of their faith. We also must never forget how blessed we are here in America. We get upset if the sermon goes too long and we miss the kick off of the football game or some newspaper writes a negative story about our faith. In nations around the world people are abused, hurt, and even murdered because they follow Jesus.  Read more on this issue by  clicking right here.)

RNC will drop abortion coverage

The vice chairman of the Republican National Committee says the RNC never should have had a health insurance plan that covered abortions.  ( RNC will drop abortion coverage  )

Politico uncovered last week that since 1991, the Republican National Committee has offered employees a health insurance plan through Cigna that covers elective abortion.  RNC chairman Michael Steele says he did not know the abortion coverage existed but will have it dropped.

(Yes the RNC should never had a plan like this but it is good they are dropping it. I would expect the Democrats to have a plan that pays for abortions but not the RNC. )

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani Says Trying 9/11 Suspects in New York Is Too Risky

Putting suspected Sept. 11 terrorists on trial in New York City places residents there at unnecessary risk, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday.
Giuliani, who was mayor of New York during the terrorist attacks, told CNN's "State of the Union" that the suspects should face military tribunals rather than regular trials.
(You can watch an excerpt of the interview  right here. The Mayor is right New York City should not have to deal with  the 911 attacks again. Not only will those charged be on trial but so will everything our nation did after the attacks. This is going to be a zoo. Shame on the Obama team for doing this. Why should the families of those murdered on 9-11 after live through this again. Thanks President Obama.)
