Massachusetts may soon lay off its prison chaplains. Those plans
could unfold within the next few weeks.
Mark
Hemenway of New England Prison Ministries is concerned because the role of
prison chaplain is important. "It is -- and it's huge," he stresses.
"And if you speak with a chaplain, you'll hear stories of people who were saved
from suicide, who were helped from committing acts of violence." The impact of
chaplains "is not always apparent, but it's very real," he adds.
(While it might be too bad to see these workers not be around prisons perhaps we can get some truly Godly chaplains by different Christian Ministries like Good News Jail and prison ministries bringing them in. Not all chaplains know the true God. They might know about God without knowing God. If you are a person of faith join me in praying that true people of God will be brought into the prisons around the nation. Read more on this issue Prison chaplains facing cuts.)
