A Tax Break for Pet Owners

Animal shelters across the country have reported a sharp surge in abandoned animals, many cut loose by owners who can no longer afford to care for them. Now, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R., Mich.) has introduced a bill that would use the federal tax code to help.

The Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (HAPPY) Act would allow pet owners to deduct the cost of food, veterinary care, and other pet-related expenses from their income taxes—up to $3500 per year. McCotter says the bill would provide tax relief for pet owners while at the same time strengthening “the human-animal bond.”
(As an animal lover and  tax payer who is sick of paying so much to support Uncle Sam I like this idea so far. Read more A Tax Break for Pet Owners.)

No Freedom of Speech at a Dallas School

A federal appeals court has upheld a suburban Dallas school district's rules limiting when students can hand out religious materials.
Since 2005, the Plano Independent School District has allowed students to distribute materials before and after school, at three annual parties, during recess, and at designated tables during school hours. Middle and high schoolers also can hand out items during lunch. (Speech is free when time frame-friendly  )

The Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found those regulations to be constitutional, but sent claims over an earlier more restrictive policy back to district court. Under that policy, parents of students at Plano schools said their children were banned from handing out pencils saying "Jesus is the reason for the season," candy canes with cards describing their Christian origin, and other religious materials.

(Why is everything OK  and allowed  in the government schools except those things that speak kindly of God and faith. No wonder more and more parents are removing their children from the government schools. )

NY traditional marriage supporters celebrate

A bill that would have allowed same-sex marriage was rejected by New York lawmakers, a stunning outcome for advocates in a state that was the site of one of the gay rights movement's defining moments four decades ago, and a huge victory for opponents who said it could influence votes elsewhere. (NY traditional marriage supporters celebrate  )

"It's just a huge win," said Maggie Gallagher, president of the National Organization for Marriage, a nonprofit organization whose stated mission is to protect marriage. "It's going to help cement defeat for gay marriage in New Jersey, and I think it's going to get a whole bunch of politicians in New Hampshire who voted for gay marriage this year pretty nervous when they come up for election."

(This is good news. I hope those who keep pushing same sex marriage on us will start to learn the American people don't want it from the Bible based south to even those states who mostly  look at things from the left.)

CNN Missing Dobbs...

The pioneering and once dominant leader in cable news has been hemorrhaging viewers for some time and earlier this year suffered the indignity of slipping to last place among cable news networks, behind even its sister network Headline News.

Now come the November Nielsen ratings showing that the surprise departure of Lou Dobbs has cost the network even more viewers.

After Dobbs announced his resignation on air on Wednesday November 11, CNN suffered a 25% decline among all viewers in Dobbs' 7pm time slot, and a 26% decline among adults 25-54. (Missing Dobbs...  )

(So even those who watch CNN want to hear  and see those who aren't part of the left on at least some of the issues.)

Life for Children?

The United States Supreme Court this month heard arguments in a case that could decide whether a child who commits a crime should be sentenced in some circumstances to life without parole.

There can be no question that some minors who murder are unfit to be released from prison for fear they might kill again. But what about crimes that don't involve homicide? Should a 13-year-old be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole? Such a case is now before the Court.

Perhaps if we focused more on redemption, rather than detention, the results would be different.

(The above is part of a column written by Cal Thomas,  Read more of the column below.)

Over the years we've managed to get the punishment part right, but what about the redemption part? Prisoners have few advocates and often feel abandoned and without hope. Clearly there must be a better way when the number of incarcerated grows every year, along with the cost of warehousing them in places that serve as hot houses of despair and training academies for hardened criminals. Many inmates will be paroled and commit more crimes.

I solicited success stories from people who work with teen offenders. One response came from Dr. Scott Larson, who serves on the board of Reclaiming Youth International and is president of Straight Ahead Ministries (www.straightahead.org) in Worcester, Mass. Larson writes, "My wife and I took up to seven youth at a time between 1990 and 2000, and 10 of those youth were locked up for manslaughter charges. Eight of those went to college; none were re-arrested.

Larson says under current law, these youth "would all be doing life sentences (10 to 20 years) in adult prisons, though in each case they were present, but not necessarily the shooter in gang clashes." He says his group also works with members of the Bloods and Crips gangs in Lynn, Mass., "and have seen them reconcile and work for good in their community.

One size fits all sentencing doesn't and it shouldn't. Isn't it better to attempt to reclaim children headed in the wrong direction than to doom them to life in prison without parole? I think it is. Let's hope the Supreme Court thinks so, too.

(Amen Cal. Lets focus on helping children and not putting  them away in adult prisons. Read all of what Cal wrote  Life for Children?)

Surprise: Your Biological Father May Be Charles Manson.

At some point, every adopted child wonders about his biological parents. Did I get my athletic abilities from my birth mom? Did my birth dad have these brown eyes?

In one particularly stunning case, Matthew Roberts of Los Angeles found out -- to his horror -- that he very well could be the son of convicted murderer Charles Manson.

Roberts, 41, started looking for his roots 12 years ago. Through a social service agency, he located his biological mother in Wisconsin.

She revealed that Manson might be his father. She claims she met the Helter Skelterite in 1967 -- two years before the infamous Manson Family murders -- and was raped by Manson in a drug-fueled orgy. After seeing Roberts' photo, she was convinced he is Manson's son.

(This is a reason I have a concern when children start looking for their biological parents. Any person can make a baby  but it takes a true woman or true man to raise a  child. Read more of the above story Surprise: Your Biological Father May Be Charles Manson.)

Mike Huckabee on Commuting Sentence of Now-Suspected Cop Killer

BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "Factor Investigation" segment tonight: Washington state authorities say 37-year-old Maurice Clemmons walked into a cafe and shot four police officers dead on Sunday. The man had been charged with assaulting a police officer in May. In July, he was charged with raping and molesting a 12-year-old female girl, a relative. But just a week ago this guy was released on $15,000 bail, an incredibly low number for the kind of crimes he is accused of.

All together, he had a total of eight felony charges pending against him. But Judge John McCarthy set the bail and Judge Thomas Finagle signed off on the bail and let him out. We contacted the judges, but they did not return our phone calls, which is not very smart. They will be held accountable.

In addition, Clemmons was incarcerated in Arkansas for burglary and theft, sentenced to 60 years. But then-Governor Mike Huckabee commuted the criminal sentence in the year 2000. Mr. Huckabee, now a FOX News analyst, joins from us Little Rock.

Thanks for being a stand-up guy, governor. A lot of people want an explanation. This is a bad hombre, and you let him out. Why?

MIKE HUCKABEE, FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR: Well, Bill, first of all, I think the tragedy of this — if I could have known nine years ago this guy was capable of something of this magnitude, obviously, I would never have granted a commutation. It's sickening. The two people in this country that I value the most are soldiers and police officers, because they're the only thing standing between our freedom and total anarchy. And in the case of this particular individual, he was sentenced to 108 years for two crimes when he was 16. The post-prison transfer board, the process, and I'll be very brief about this, but to understand they recommended to me as governor for his commutation, which didn't release him, it simply cut his sentence to 47 years. That would give him parole eligibility. That was the commutation. I'm responsible for that, and it's not something I'm happy about at this particular moment, in light of that.

O'REILLY: OK, but it was a bad guy in prison, and the prosecutors told you, so they say, "Hey, this is a hard-core guy. This isn't some kid who went wrong."

HUCKABEE: We didn't have any information from the prosecutors. We sent notices, which is the practice in Arkansas, to five different people: the attorney general, secretary of state, the prosecutor, the judge, and law enforcement. The only official that we have record of getting notification from is the judge who agreed with the recommendation of the parole board. So that's what we acted upon, what I acted upon. I'm responsible for that. And, you know, my heart is broken for four families tonight.

O'REILLY: Well, it's not your fault, governor. I mean, look, you've got 1,200 of these cases a year. You've got to look at them. I'm not saying it's your fault. I don't think anybody watching thinks it's your fault. But the judges in Washington state, come on. I mean, this guy moves from your state, Arkansas, to Washington state, and then he racks up eight felony charges. Eight felonies, including the rape of a 12-year-old

(I am sorry perhaps I am missing something but  I don't  understand why so much blame is being put on the Gov. He  commuted the criminal sentence in the year 2000 when this killer was 16 years old. He didn't have the record he had years later.  Most of the blame should be put on the judges who let this man out even after he raped a 12 year old.  Read more of the above interview  Mike Huckabee on Commuting Sentence of Now-Suspected Cop Killer or   Click here to watch the interview!)

Health bills fail to block illegals from coverage, despite Obama pledge...

Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants could receive health care coverage from their employers under the bills winding their way through Congress, despite President Obama's explicit pledge that illegal immigrants would not benefit. (Health bills fail to block illegals from coverage, despite Obama pledge  )

(It is looking more and more like President Obama isn't a  man of his word. He told us there would be no coverage to pay for abortions and what bill did the US Senate pass a few weeks ago abortion coverage. Now it looks like people who didn't come to America the lawful way are going to be covered. This is an outrage and every voter should not forget this. )

Tiger Woods says he has let his family down

(Below is part of a   statement released Wednesday by golfer Tiger Woods on his Web site. It ran with the headline "Tiger comments on current events.")

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means.

(I do believe at times we focus too much on people in the spotlight instead of putting our focus on the important issues of the day still what do you expect when something happens at your home around 2:00 A.M. and you refuse to talk to the police. Read more of the above statement Tiger Woods says he has let his family down and regrets those 'transgressions'. Lets all hope and pray that Tiger and his family can heal.)

Chris Matthews calls West Point the 'Enemy Camp'.

Watch the  video below  but be prepared to get upset. According to Mr. Chris Matthews those who are being trained to defend America are part of the enemy camp. I know I shouldn't be  shocked by anything done by those on the left. Why should those who are ready to give their lives for freedom be happy with a speech which puts the focus on how we are going to leave the battle when it is time instead on winning. Even though President Bush didn't do everything right at least he was trying his best to help America win the war. Watch the video and see what you think Chris Matthews calls West Point the 'Enemy Camp'.
