Sen. Ben Nelson, who holds a pivotal vote, said he plans to offer an amendment
to the health care bill that would mirror House-approved restrictions on federal
funding for abortions.
“My Senate amendment would ban any public funds from paying for abortions
under a new health care reform bill,” the Nebraska Democrat said Wednesday.
The amendment would be among dozens expected to be offered. (Nelson: No public abortion funds )
Nelson said he will vote to block the bill if the abortion language in the
bill is not changed.
( I am glad Sen. Nelson is going to try to stop health care from paying for abortions but lets not forget he and other Pro Life Democrats could have stopped this bill by voting against it a few weeks back. Does Sen. Nelson want to be able to say he is pro life even though he voted for a health care bill which will pay for abortions. I know he will say he was just voting for the bill to be debated. What a great idea vote for a bad bill and then try to change it. The voters of Nebraska need to retire Sen. Nelson at the next election. )
