Episcopal Church: No sign of repentance

The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles elected a lesbian as assistant bishop Saturday, the second openly gay bishop in the global Anglican fellowship, which is already deeply fractured over the first.

 

The Rev. Mary Glasspool of Baltimore needs approval from a majority of national church leaders before she can be consecrated as assistant bishop in the Los Angeles diocese. ( Episcopal Church: No sign of repentance )

 

Still, her victory underscored a continued Episcopal commitment to accepting same-sex relationships despite enormous pressure from other Anglicans to change their stand.

(I think it is getting close for people who are submitted to the Lordship of the Bible to get out of this so called church. There is a time to stay and fight but also a time to stop fighting and leave. God will deal with those who don't follow him and his word. I wouldn't want to be them on judgement day. Also church should be a place where you can grow in your faith and learn about the Bible and God. It should not be a place where something the Bible calls sin is blessed and encouraged by the leaders. )

Survey says giving outweighs receiving

 According to the study conducted by Caravan Opinion Research Corporation for the American Red Cross, nearly 40 percent of Americans say it is more important to make charitable donations, even if that means forgoing a gift.

 
The survey questioned 1001 adults, 68 percent of which felt that one effective way to give more to charity is to ask someone to make a donation rather than purchasing them a gift. 80 percent said they, themselves would contribute to humane organizations instead of buying someone a gift if they were asked to do so.

E-mails release Chinese prisoner

Two years ago, Osman Imin and Aliman Yimit, two leaders in the Uyghur house church movement, were arrested by Chinese authorities. Osman was recently released, but Aliman is still confined in what is called "arbitrary detention." (E-mails release Chinese prisoner  )
 
Dr. Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, believes a two-year e-mail campaign helped motivate authorities to release Osman.

(Lets rejoice over the release of Osman and lets work along with praying that soon Yimit is released.)

Castro's son elected to baseball

A son of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro's has been elected one of three vice presidents of the International Baseball Federation after a vote Sunday in Lausanne, Switzerland, Cuban sports officials said.

Antonio Castro, a 39-year-old doctor, was elected to the post along with Japan's Kazuhiro Tawa and Mexico's Alonso Perez. Ricardo Fraccari of Italy was selected the federation's new president. The IBAF administers baseball outside the major pro leagues.

( I don't  blame children for the sins of their parents but it is sad that this man didn't grow up knowing what it is like to live in a free nation.  It is also sad that most children growing up in Cuba don't get the chances that this man got. Evangelical Lutheran leader suggests Bible not the final authority

The presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is suggesting that the Bible isn't the last word on homosexuality.

 

In a town hall meeting Sunday, Bishop Mark Hanson said, "the understanding we have of homosexuality today does not seem to be reflected at all in the context of the biblical writers." Therefore, he said, Lutherans should consider more modern views on sexual orientation.

(This so called Bishop should go find another job. He also need to read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - Passage Lookup - New International Version  which reads, All Scripture comes from God. When it gets down to faith and spiritual issues it doesn't matter what anyone thinks including this so called Bishop. What matters is what God says in his word the Bible. Read more on this issue

Sen. Baucus nominated girlfriend for U.S. attorney post...

 Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus defended recommending his girlfriend for appointment as Montana's U.S. attorney, saying Saturday that his one-time staff member and the former state prosecutor is "highly qualified" but eventually withdrew her nomination.

Baucus said that he began dating former state office director Melodee Hanes after they were both separated from their spouses. The Montana Democrat said they did not have an affair, but began dating while she worked for him.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele called Saturday for a Senate Ethics Committee investigation of Baucus' actions. Steele said the panel should determine "why Senator Baucus put his personal needs above those of the people of Montana. (Sen. Baucus nominated girlfriend for U.S. attorney post...  )

( I believe this is what they call a conflict of interest. Mr. Steele is right this is something which should be looked into.)

Obama's closed-door open-government

 It's hardly the image of transparency the Obama administration wants to project: A workshop on government openness is closed to the public.

The event Monday for federal employees is a fitting symbol of President Barack Obama's uneven record so far on the Freedom of Information Act, a big part of keeping his campaign promise to make his administration the most transparent ever. As Obama's first year in office ends, the government's actions when the public and press seek information are not yet matching up with the president's words.

"The Freedom of Information Act should be administered with a clear presumption: In the face of doubt, openness prevails," Obama told government offices on his first full day as president. "The government should not keep information confidential merely because public officials might be embarrassed by disclosure, because errors and failures might be revealed, or because of speculative or abstract fears.

(Yes this is going to be an open administration! Not! Obama goes after Fox news and then a meeting yesterday on health was not open to the GOP but also not open to the public. It looks like President Obama is afraid people will see what his  White House is  doing to this great nation. Read more on this issue Obama's closed-door open-government meeting.)
