(As I posted yesterday here in Omaha, Nebraska we had some bad weather that brought about school closings. Check out the post I did Snow
Day . Well one thing was not called off. I have posted part of the story below.)
There was much anticipation for the "Star Wars: In Concert"
at the Qwest Center
Tuesday
night. But it wasn't without controversy since the show went on despite the
weather. C3PO told the crowd at the beginning of the show, "Thank you for
braving the elements."
For some families, the force toppled the fierce snowstorm.
The O'Connor family lives in West Omaha
but rented
a room downtown around lunchtime to beat the snow and be there for the show.
"The kids couldn't miss it," says John O'Connor.
"It would be devastating to say that you could come and then
not be able to," says Lesley Royal. "And some of the adults are just as
bad."
But there are many who stayed away and believe the dark side
won this time.
'Star Wars: In Concert' is part of a national touring company
with a tight schedule. Officials
sympathize with the fans but say rules are rules. No refunds. No exchanges.
(I understand why they have the rule they have but our local news was telling people to stay off of the roads and yet they won't refund the money of people who decided to be safe instead of putting them and their children in danger. However what I find more troubling is what the parent said above that it would devastating to a child to miss the show. I know a child might not be happy if they missed the show. However there are lots of other things that would be more devastating such as a parent or a love one dieing, their parents getting a divorce, a sibling have a terrible illness. Also I think being in a car crash because of the weather might be something parents should worry about more than telling a child they won't be able to attend a show.
