Today: Holiday gifts.
Cal: It's that most wonderful time of the year again, Bob,
as the tinny music blaring from the shopping mall speakers reminds us. So let's
play Santa and spread Christmas cheer to our favorite — or not-so-favorite —
politicians and celebrities. My first gift, wrapped in a nice bow, goes to Tiger
Woods. It's a week of marriage counseling, courtesy of Dr. Phil. And to
Tiger's wife, Elin, goes an electronic bracelet. Not for her, but so that she
can keep track of her philandering husband.
Bob: That's a tough beginning, Cal, so in that spirit let me
award the Republicans in Congress a very large stop sign, symbolic of their
continuing opposition to everything President Obama
has proposed. In my 30 years in Washington, I have never seen a more polarizing,
politically conniving, party-first/country-last crowd than the members of the
GOP in the Senate and the House.
Cal: Books always make nice gifts. So I'm going to deliver a
leatherbound U.S. history text to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who had the
gall to equate Republican
opposition to the health care bill with those who supported slavery and opposed the Civil Rights Act.
If Reid reads the book, he'll learn that Republican Abraham
Lincoln signed the Emancipation
Proclamation and Southern Democrats led the opposition to civil rights. And to
House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi, I'll give her a year of flights on Southwest
Airlines so she can mingle with the public she was elected to serve rather than
traversing the country on government jets.
