Huckabee leads rally to try to change Nelson's mind

The health-care reform bill expected to win passage in the U.S. Senate is an attack on “liberty” in America, said Mike Huckabee, a former Republican presidential candidate from Arkansas.

Huckabee was the star of the show at an Omaha, Nebraska  rally held Sunday against President Obama's health care initiative. He opposes the mandate in the bill that will require all Americans to have insurance.

Huckabee said in an interview prior to the rally that the bill requires Americans to “put their liberty in the hands of government.”

About 1,800 people packed the lower level of the Omaha Music Hall for the rally. Many of them said they came to show their disappointment with Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson, who is providing Obama the crucial 60th vote to get the bill passed.

They booed heartily whenever Nelson's name was mentioned.

George Skidmore said he voted for Nelson in the last election, but never again.

(The people here in Nebraska are speaking up. Nelson deciding to back Obamacare may be the end of his  political career. Read more on this issue Huckabee leads rally to try to change Nelson's mind.)

SOLD: Neb.'s Nelson sees backlash on health bill...

It was the concern of Nebraska's Republican governor over expanded Medicaid costs in the proposed Senate health care overhaul bill that led to a compromise to cover his state's estimated $45 million share over a decade, U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson said Sunday.

Gov. Dave Heineman "contacted me and he said this is another unfunded federal mandate and it's going to stress the state budget, and I agreed with him," the Nebraska Democrat said. "I said to the leader and others that this is something that has to be fixed. I didn't participate in the way it was fixed." (SOLD: Neb.'s Nelson sees backlash on health bill...  )

But Heineman expressed anything but gratitude, saying he had nothing to do with the compromise and calling the overhaul bill "bad news for Nebraska and bad news for America."

"Nebraskans did not ask for a special deal, only a fair deal," Heineman said in a statement Sunday.

(It is sad when a leader sells out but that is what Ben Nelson did on health care. He sold out the unborn children who will be murdered thanks to Obamacare. He sold out the tax payers who will have to pay more in taxes to fund this government program . He sold out our senors . Nelson and every Democrat who voted for this  should be given a pink slip by the voters in their states. Thanks Nelson for the good work you did in supporting this terrible bill.)

Reaction to Nelson's decision

(Believe me here in Nebraska many are upset over Sen. Nelson deciding to back Obamacare. Some are shocked by it. I am not in the shock camp but I am upset at him. Read below to find out what others are saying about Nelson.)

The deal struck is tragically insufficient. ... We've been handed a watered-down accounting gimmick that leads to Nebraska taxpayers subsidizing abortions in other states. This is a very bad deal for Nebraskans, and I am stunned and incredibly disappointed. If you are pro-life you cannot vote to end debate on this bill. This could very well be our last chance to stop taxpayer-funded abortions. (Objecting to a provision to provide extra Medicaid payments to Nebraska): “I could not feel more strongly about my vote on this terrible, awful piece of legislation. And it has only gotten worse today. This is the wrong course for our country. I find it personally heartbreaking … to think that this is what it took to get the final vote necessary to carry this bill to the finish line.”

— U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb

Unfortunately for Nebraska, it appears that the health care bill will now pass the Senate. This bill is bad for seniors because it cuts a huge amount of money from Medicare, which will weaken the program. It includes a massive and costly Medicaid mandate. Even if Sen. Ben Nelson was able to receive some Medicaid dollars for the state, it will only delay the financial impact to Nebraska taxpayers (and) which will force future cuts and property tax increases.

— U.S. Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb.

There is no pro-life Nebraskan more devastated by Sen. Nelson's actions than myself. I have defended his record to Nebraskans and believed that he would stand on pro-life principles as he has on numerous occasions in the past. ... Sen. Nelson obliterated the hope of pro-life Americans who saw him as the last man standing between expansion of government funding of abortion and the Hyde Amendment.

— Julie Schmit-Albin, executive director, Nebraska Right to Life

The Manhattan Declaration

There are  some leaders in the faith based world encouraging people to go and put their names on , The Manhattan Declaration. However should  those who follow Jesus be so quick to do that, I don't think so. To find out what I think watch a video I just posted last night,
