It is snowing here in the heartland. We are under  a blizzard warning. Some have had to change their planes but Christmas will never end. That brings  a question  to me  have you ever thought about what is the purpose of Christmas and why do we have Christmas? To find out the answers please watch a video I just posted to my You Tube channel. Watch it and be touched with and for the message of ChristmasPurpose of Christmas 12-24.avi .

Twas 'The Night After Christmas'

A Christian author is encouraging believers to avoid getting caught up in the crass commercialism that surrounds Christmas.

Millions are familiar with the poem "The Night Before Christmas," and several years ago, it inspired poet Jim Chapman to pen a similar work titled "The Night After Christmas." ( Twas 'The Night After Christmas' )

"About 12 [or] 13 years ago, I ran across a statement that martyred missionary Jim Elliot made, and apparently he felt the same way about Christmas," Chapman explains. "He was troubled by...the commercialism and all this pressure for gift-giving and what not, and he wrote to his then finance Elizabeth one year and said, 'It seems to me we would all have a better attitude toward the whole thing if someone would write a realistic poem on the night after Christmas to counterbalance the magical effects of the imaginative night before.'"

(A number of years ago my friend Cal Thomas wrote a column and did a radio commentary in which you wrote and said it is time to take Christ out of Christmas. I believe people of faith need to get away from the Christmas culture and put our focus on Jesus. No there is nothing wrong with giving a few gifts but too often in America and the West people try to buy the love of others. Lets not forget Christmas is not about going to the mall and  giving or getting lots of gifts. Christmas for us who are people of faith should be about God sending his son Jesus  to die for our sins.)

Make the Democrats Pay for Health Care Bill Vote

Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson joined fellow Democrats in voting to pass the Senate health care bill this morning before lawmakers left town for Christmas.

That final vote required only a simple majority, but on several procedural moves this week, Nelson provided the crucial 60th vote to move the legislation forward. Nelson said after the final vote that he felt good about supporting the legislation. (Nelson votes yes )

"I know there are a lot of people who have an opposing point of view," Nelson said.

He said Americans already uneasy about the state of the economy have been confused by misinformation about the complicated health care bill.

"It's not surprising that people are upset," Nelson said.

Nelson said that if Congress fails to act, the cost of health insurance will continue to increase beyond the ability of people to pay.

"For those who just simply say do nothing, they're ignoring the reality of what's going on," Nelson said.

(Most people agree changes need to be made but we all know government always helps when it starts a new program right? Not!  If Ben thinks this is going to save people money he is dreaming. Look for higher taxes and more taxes. I thought the Democrats were put in power because the other party couldn't  stop spending but now the Democrats are doing that at a higher rate. Even so called middle of the road Democrats like Ben Nelson. The voters should demand answers when they are home during Christmas break and we should make Nelson and all the Senators who backed this government program pay as soon as they are up re-election.)

Budget Office Challenges Medicare Savings...

The Congressional Budget Office challenged claims by health-care overhaul proponents that Medicare savings in Senate legislation would help finance expanded coverage and postpone the bankruptcy of the medical program for the elderly.

Nor could those savings be used to extend the solvency of Medicare, set to run out of money in 2017, the budget office said in a letter to Senate Republicans.

“What we’ve seen is a colossal manipulation” by Democrats “of the accounting scores of CBO” and the independent actuary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, said Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, the Republican who requested the analysis from CBO. He called the letter “a potential game-changer.”

The estimated Medicare savings in the legislation overstate “the improvement in the government’s fiscal position,” the CBO said in the letter.

“The true increase in the ability to pay for future Medicare benefits or other programs would be a good deal smaller,” the budget office said.

(The truth is you can't add more people to a program and say you are going to  spend less money and save tax payers money. Read more on this issue Budget Office Challenges Medicare Savings.)

ANOTHER DEM MAY BOLT PARTY...

Republicans are stepping up their efforts to persuade more House Democrats to switch parties and are zeroing in on a second-term Pennsylvanian who acknowledged the efforts but said he has "no plans" to do so.

Democratic Rep. Chris Carney received a phone call Wednesday from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asking him to consider becoming a Republican, a top GOP official told POLITICO. ( ANOTHER DEM MAY BOLT PARTY... )

Carney's office at first did not comment other than to acknowledge the call, but Carney released a statement Wednesday night saying, in part, "I appreciate the Republican Party's outreach, but I have no plans to change parties.

(I have come to the conclusion if you are pro family, pro life, and want lower or less taxes you no longer have a seat at the table if you are part of Democratic party.)

Email to Sen. Ben Nelson

Here is what I wrote in an email I sent to  US Senator Ben Nelson last night before I went to bed.
Senator Nelson:
Thanks so much for your time and action with this email.
As I know you have heard from others I strongly disagree with you for supporting Obamacare. However I want to encourage you to change your mind on this issue. Here are the reasons.
A. You have said you are pro life. However every pro life group I have seen says the current health care bill will pay for babies to be killed.
B. This is going to cost us tax payers a lot of money and the program doesn't even start for a number of years but the taxes will start sooner.
C. You said you would not support this bill unless changes you made when you first voted for it. Based on what I have seen those changes have not been made.
D. We were told we would see this bill debated drafted on C- Span. We have not seen that.
E. A lot of  your fellow  Senators have not read the whole bill  or it has not all been written. Is it right for you or anyone to pass a law in America in which what is contained in it is not totally known.
F. You have always called your self a middle of the road Democrat but now you are supporting  those who are part of the radical left in your party.
G. This is not good for Nebraska and most who live in this great state aren't supporting this bill.
 H. Most agree changes need to be made in health care but  you don't get rid of the baby in the bath water because the water is bad.
I will be watching what you do. By the way no group or anyone told me to write this email I wrote it all myself.
Please think about these things and change your mind on this issue. Have a blessed Christmas. Thanks for reading this.
Billy

Health care reform bill passes Senate, moves to final stage...

Senate Democrats passed a landmark health care bill in a climactic Christmas Eve vote that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in the country's history.

"We are now finally poised to deliver on the promise of real, meaningful health insurance reform that will bring additional security and stability to the American people," Obama said shortly after the Senate acted.

"This will be the most important piece of social legislation since Social Security passed in the 1930s," said Obama, standing with Vice President Joe Biden in the State Room of the White House.

The 60-39 vote on a cold winter morning capped months of arduous negotiations and 24 days of floor debate.

(I will agree with the left today's vote will make history. Sadly it is not good history and will cost our nation much in values, and taxes. It is my hope when they try to  bring the Senate and House bill together true pro life congressmen unlike Sen. Ben Nelson will stand up for the unborn. This  vote also will make history because it took place on Christmas Eve a day- night which should be about faith, God, and family not rushing a bill to be passed which is what the Democrats did. Questions on Health Care Bill

I have some questions for you the American voter and tax payer.
A. Would you vote for something you had not read or  did not have much information on?
B. Would you vote to limit your right to ever change something which the voters in your state passed?
C. Would you vote for something that made the American people buy some service or they would be punished if they didn't?
D. Would you vote to create something which gives  Uncle Sam more power and creates another government program.
I think most of us would answer no to the above questions. However that is what the majority of our US Senators are about to do. They are going to vote for a bill which most of them have not read. We need to make some changes in the best health care system in the world not get rid of the health care system we have. Also if this program is so great why did back room deals have to be made so it would pass. If this does pass as the chances are good it will those in the GOP should run on promises to remove it from the American laws. If they do  the Democrats can kiss any power they have  good-by.

Nelson defends health care role

Sen. Ben Nelson today defended the various deals he secured in exchange for his support of the Senate health care bill.

The Nebraska Democrat has been taking heat from fellow senators, pundits and his constituents for those deals, particularly an arrangement that has the federal government covering all of the cost to Nebraska of the bill's Medicaid expansion.

Nelson called the criticism a "tempest in a teapot."

(Sen. Nelson showed the people of Nebraska and America that he can be bought. Shame on him. The actions that Nelson took was not the will of the majority of  Nebraska voters. Shame on him. If the election was held today he would pay for his  sell out vote. Read more on this issue Nelson defends health care role.)

Christmas Snow Storm so Lets Cancel the Christmas Holiday

The forecast is saying a storm is coming Christmas Eve and Christmas Day here in the middle of America. Churches including mine have already called off Christmas Eve services. While we have prepared in-case our plans of spending time with our family have to be changed a question I am thinking should Christmas be canceled? Would God want us to cancel it. My answer is no while I know the Lord understands why we might need to change our plans Christmas will never be called off. After all it is the birth of the Savior of the world who was born to save us from our sins. So even if we get a snow storm  if you know Jesus don't let it cause you to not worship your Savior. Take time to listen to some Christmas music, sing some Christmas hymns like Silent Night.  Read the true Christmas story from the book of Matthew or Luke in the Bible. Watch or listen to a Christmas sermon. Read a Christmas book. Right now I am reading The Purpose of Christmas by Rick Warren. Then I plan to read Why a Manger? by Bodie and Brock Thoene .So no matter what the weather is like do take time on December 24, and December 25th and everyday to worship and seek out the Savior Jesus.

Wash Times: Nelson Sold His Soul On Abortion Amendment

So much for Sen. Ben Nelson's "line in the sand" against government funding for abortion.

"I don't ordinarily draw a line in the sand, but I have drawn a line in the sand," the Nebraska Democrat said on Dec. 4, promising he wouldn't vote for government health care if it paid for abortion. Mr. Nelson's principles barely lasted two weeks. By Saturday, he announced that he would provide the 60th vote needed to pass government care. The man's word is meaningless.

(The above is part of an  editorial that was in the Washington  Times. Based on what I have read and heard it looks like the Times is making a correct point. Ben Nelson was one of the few Democrats who was pro life and standing up for the unborn. If the deal he made is going to keep our tax money from paying for abortion why has no pro life leader or group defended Nelson. Not one of them has said this was a good deal and will keep babies from being murdered.  I think the director of Nebraska Right to Life spoke for many of us who are pro life in  the state of Nebraska and around the nation." There is no pro-life Nebraskan more devastated by Sen. Nelson's actions than myself. I have defended his record to Nebraskans and believed that he would stand on pro-life principles as he has on numerous occasions in the past. ... Sen. Nelson obliterated the hope of pro-life Americans who saw him as the last man standing between expansion of government funding of abortion and the Hyde Amendment.")

Thanks to Health Care Congressman Leaving His Party and Putting What Is Best For America First

"I believe our nation is at a crossroads and I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt."

(Alabama Congressman Parker Griffith, speaking about his decision to leave the Democrat Party and become a Republican.Read more on this issue below.)

Griffith also slammed the health care overhaul making its way through Congress. He was one of 39 House Democrats to vote against a version of the bill that narrowly passed.

"I want to make it perfectly clear that this bill is bad for our doctors," he said. "It's bad for our patients. It's bad for the young men and women who are considering going into the health care field."

He said after the press conference that his defection had nothing to do with concerns about whether he could win re-election as a Democrat. He also said he had not talked to any fellow Democrats about switching parties along with him.

"If they do, I hope it's on conviction and not politics," he said.

(We need more leaders like  Alabama Congressman Parker Griffith who is putting what is best for America ahead of  party and politics.)
