Michael Medved : Custody Case Highlights Artificiality of Same Sex Marriage

A nasty custody case in Virginia highlights the way that the relentless push for same sex marriage threatens our core understanding of the nature of family. The desperate determination to honor gay rights undermines such fundamental values as the importance of motherhood, and the states obligation to consider the welfare of the child.
The basic facts of the current dispute remain uncontested. In the late 1990s, Lisa Miller and Janet Jenkins began a lesbian relationship, and they secured a civil union in the state of Vermont in 2000. Shortly thereafter, Miller became pregnant through artificial insemination from a sperm donor, with the understanding that she and Jenkins would raise the resulting child as a couple. After the babys first birthday, however, Miller renounced homosexuality, became an Evangelical Christian and decided to raise her child, Isabella, on her own. The two women sought legal dissolution of their relationship in the Vermont Family Court and the judge, William D. Cohen, awarded custody to the birth mother but provided extensive visitation rights for the mothers rejected girlfriend. For several years, Miller resisted sharing her daughter with Jenkins, employing various legal strategies to challenge the court order.
(The above is part of a  column written by  Michael Medved. Read more of the column below.)
Finally, on November 20, 2009, Judge Cohen found Miller in contempt of court for continuing to deny access to her daughter, now seven years old. He also changed his decision regarding custody now awarding custody to Jenkins, who bore no biological connection to the child and played no significant role in her upbringing after the babys first year. Courts in both Virginia and Vermont backed Jenkins claims on the babyclaims that received potent free legal backing from both the ACLU and the gay-rights-oriented Lamda Legal Foundation.
The governmental authorities ordered Lisa Miller to hand over little Isabella to Janet Jenkins, a woman the child hardly knew, on January 1st, at 1 PM, at the home of Ms. Jenkins parents in Falls Church, Virginia. Ms. Miller failed to appear as directed, and is presumed to have become a fugitive with her daughter.
Regardless of the final outcome of this sad story, the case demonstrates the way that the militant gay rights agenda trumps long-standing patterns and preferences in family law.
(Amen Michael. To those of you who say Miller  shouldn't  have gone on the run , what would you do if your  seven year old child was going to be made to spend time with a person she hardly knew. This case should also show us that  some  of those  who are pushing for gay rights  including  the right  to adopt  children don't care about what is best for the children. They are just pushing their  political and culture  agenda. Read all of the above column  by clicking right here.)

National Championship Bowl Pick

Here just for fun is another bowl pick. This week I have missed every bowl game so you are nuts if you put the house or the wife, or the kids on this  pick.
Tonight in the  BCS National Championship at Pasadena, Calif.
Alabama (13-0)  is taking  on  Texas (13-0).   Texas didn't play that  good against Nebraska. Their Star player Colt McCoy
didn't manage the clock well. I think there is a good chance  McCoy  will play a lot better tonight. Alabama has Sophomore running back Mark Ingram  who was  the first Alabama player to win the Heisman Trophy. There is a history that schools who  have the  Heisman Trophy  winner not doing well in their bowl games. I think that could be put to rest tonight. Texas  could  shock some people by winning but I am going with the  Crimson Tide  of Alabama to win the National Championship by at least ten. Again I  have had a bad week with my picks so we will see if that  will end tonight. This Friday I am thinking of making some picks for the NFL playoffs.

Thumbs down on Nelson : Letter in the Paper

I am happy to report my local paper the Omaha World -Herald  yesterday published a letter I wrote them. You can read it below.

Because of Sen. Ben Nelson’s support of government health care: —
Unborn babies will be killed, and we taxpayers will pay for it.

— Spending will go up, and cuts in Medicare are very much possible.

— People around America have been given the idea that our values here in Nebraska can be bought.

Sen. Nelson has put his party ahead of Nebraska values. At the next election, the majority of Nebraska voters should give him a pink slip.

Chicago police may ditch entrance exam to boost minority hirin

The Chicago Police Department is seriously considering scrapping the police entrance exam, sources tell Fran Spielman.

Dropping the exam would bolster minority hiring and avert legal battles, according to one source, while others confirm that the exam could be scrapped to open the process to as many people as possible.

However, the lack of an exam would make Chicago the lone major city without one, and experts contend that the exam is integral to eliminating unqualified applicants.

The CPD has tried in recent years to boost minority hiring by offering the police exam online and turning to minority clergy to help in the recruitment effort.

(If I lived  in Chicago I would be concerned. We are going nuts over making sure we are PC even when it comes to the safety of the public. Read more on this issue Chicago police may ditch entrance exam to boost minority hiring. This idea is also putting down those who are part of  a minority group saying they need extra help to get hired which is not the case at all.)

Texas gov calls for discipline in state spending...

Texas Gov. Rick Perry took another swipe at Washington and big government, issuing proposals Wednesday that would make it difficult for the Legislature to raise taxes and would limit the amount state spending could grow.

He proposed constitutional amendments Wednesday that would require a supermajority of the Legislature to raise taxes and to cap the growth of state spending at a level tied to inflation and population growth. ( Texas gov calls for discipline in state spending... )

Perry said his proposals would solidify the "state's commitment to fiscal discipline."

He said it's more important than ever to exert fiscal discipline as Washington expands programs that "pile up debt on future generations."

(It is too bad that all leaders from every state and our leaders in D.C. don't follow the example of the Texas Gov. When you and I can't afford something we have to cut it out unlike the government which raises taxes when they don't have enough money.)

Sen. Nelson[D]: We should have waited on health care...

Sen. Ben Nelson said Tuesday it was a mistake for the Obama Administration to take on massive health care reforms in 2009, and suggested efforts would have been better spent addressing the economy.

Nelson, who provided the crucial 60th vote to advance the bill toward Senate passage on Dec. 19, has been active ever since trying to explain his actions to Nebraskans. Ads have aired on television and Nelson is making the rounds with the state’s media.

He requested Tuesday’s interview with the Tribune.

(If Sen. Nelson  truly believes Obama rushed  this through why didn't he  say that before and why did he cast the 60th vote in support of Obamacare. My guess is that Mr. Nelson is worried because voters here in Nebraska are upset with him. Read more of the above story  Sen. Nelson[D]: We should have waited on health care.)

Schools agree to end Bible distribution

Public school officials in Wilson County, Tennessee, have agreed to stop distributing Bibles to students during the school day on school grounds. The settlement comes after the American Civil Liberties Union threatened to sue the district.

The ACLU said in a news release that  students were taken into the gym and they were given Bibles. The students were told they didn't have to take a Bible but one fifth grade student  feared being ostracized. (Schools agree to end Bible distribution  )

(OK perhaps during school time leaders of the school shouldn't encourage kids to take a Bible but look at how students of faith are put down  in theses same schools when them or their parents speak up on so called sex education, or that they believe the homosexual life is wrong. So things that bless wrong actions are OK  in the schools  but not giving out a Bible. Perhaps this is why many children are struggling because they don't know there is a God loves them and has his rules written down. This might also be another reason to remove your children from the government schools. )

(NBA) commissioner David Stern open to gambling.

National Basketball Association (NBA) commissioner David Stern told Sports Illustrated he's open to the idea of gambling.
Les Bernal, executive director for Stop Predatory Gambling, predicts that gambling "will completely corrupt the professional sports system. The idea that you're going to allow individuals to make large sums off of a minor point spread in a basketball game -- I mean, it's open to all kinds of influence," he says.

Bernal feels that agreement with Stern's comments will ultimately mean a bad outcome for the NBA and America. "We call it predatory gambling for a reason," he comments. "It's the out-of-control and addictive individual who makes up the base of the money-making scheme for these guys who own these gambling rings."
(Families, kids, and parents have had their lives destroyed thanks to gambling.  Mr. Stern is out to lunch if he allows gambling to take place in the NBA. Read more of the above story NBA gambling would only benefit bookies.)

Another Snow Storm

A winter storm warning went into effect this morning across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa,
Read more …
(That is right we are getting hit with another snow storm. One weather guy that I know of did say that this will be the last snowfall we get for awhile. However we know that the weather people don't create the weather they just try to  predict it. So the schools are closed again and I have a snow day. )

GMAC Bowl Pick

Wednesday, Jan. 6
GMAC Bowl
Mobile, Ala.

Central Michigan (11-2) vs. Troy (9-3), 6 p.m. (ESPN)
I did some more reading on this bowl game than the others I have picked so that might be a help or a downfall in forecasting this game. I am going to go with Troy,  again don't put the kids or the house on it. Watch the game to see if I was right or was my pick nutty and wrong.

C-SPAN DARE TO DEMS: OPEN HEALTH TALKS!

The head of C-SPAN has implored Congress to open up the last leg of health care reform negotiations to the public, as top Democrats lay plans to hash out the final product among themselves.

C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb wrote to leaders in the House and Senate Dec. 30 urging them to open "all important negotiations, including any conference committee meetings," to televised coverage on his network.  ( C-SPAN DARE TO DEMS: OPEN HEALTH TALKS! )

"The C-SPAN networks will commit the necessary resources to covering all of the sessions LIVE and in their entirety," he wrote.

( I thought this White House was going to be more open than any other White House but now it looks like that was just a lie. What are our leaders thinking the polls show the voters are against what the left is doing with health care. I guess Obama and our leaders in the House and Senate want to keep the American people from finding out more of what is wrong with the health care bills. )

COUNT THE LIES: OBAMA VOWED 8 X TO TELEVISE HEALTHCARE

President Obama promised us the American tax payer that the debate on health care would be shown live on TV. Guess what it is not going to be covered  that way. The media is willing to do that but not the leaders from the left who are in charge in Washington D.C. Never mind that it is going to impact us though our leaders aren't going to be covered under the government health care plan. Watch a video of the promise Obama made and broke ,  The C-SPAN Lie?
