Canadian Premier COMES TO USA for surgery

Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams will undergo heart surgery later this week in the United States.

Deputy premier Kathy Dunderdale confirmed the treatment at a news conference Tuesday, but would not reveal the location of the operation or how it would be paid for.

"He has gone to a renowned expert in the procedure that he needs to have done," said Ms. Dunderdale, who will become acting premier while Mr. Williams is away for three to 12 weeks. ( Canadian Premier COMES TO USA for surgery)

"In consultation with his own doctors, he's decided to go that route."

Mr. Williams' decision to leave Canada for the surgery has raised eyebrows over his apparent shunning of Canada's health-care system.

(If America's  health care system is so bad and we need to be more like those who have government health care why is the leader of a nation which has that kind of system coming here for a heart operation. Enough said.)

Rifqa's parents renege

The head of a Christian ministry dedicated to exposing the truth about Islam says she's not surprised that the Muslim parents of a Christian convert from Islam have decided to backtrack on an agreement that allows their daughter to stay with foster parents until her 18th birthday.

As previously reported, Ohio authorities recently announced a court settlement that permitted 17-year-old Rifqa Bary to remain free from her Muslim parents. The agreement would allow her stay in a foster home under state custody until she turns 18 in August, at which time she will be an adult and free to live where she chooses. ( Rifqa's parents renege )

W.L. Cati, founder of White Horse Ministries, the organization that helped the Sri Lanka native when she was in Florida, comments that this reaction is not unexpected.

"I'm not surprised," she states. "They're not going to give up. Anything that belongs to a Muslim is a possession. It's like their car just got stolen, and [they're] going to fight to get it back."

(Lets all hope and pray this judge doesn't change his mind. The truth is the faith of Islam commands that those who convert to another faith are to be killed.)

Officials to review military's homosexual ban

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is tapping two seasoned Pentagon officials to lead the military's first in-depth study on allowing openly homosexual service members, promising to try to spare more troops from being dismissed in the meantime.

An announcement of the study, expected Tuesday before the Senate Armed Services Committee, marks a major step toward President Barack Obama's goal of eliminating the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which is based on a 1993 law. Obama has called on Congress to repeal the law, but Democrats say they want more guidance on how to allow openly homosexual service members to serve without causing a major upheaval.

(No matter what study is done they need to talk to those who are in the Armed Services. Most of those who are serving in the Armed Services don't want things changed. Also no one is stopping anyone from serving in the Armed Services  because they are a homosexual. The only way someone  is kicked out is if they are making their  homosexual life public.  Find out more about this issue Officials to review military's homosexual ban.)

Obama's false claims taken to task

U.S. Supreme Court smallA conservative legal scholar and former member of the Federal Election Commission says President Obama made two claims in his State of the Union speech about the Supreme Court's decision in the Citizens United case that are "categorically and undeniable false." (See earlier story)
Hans von Spakovsky, a legal scholar at The Heritage Foundation, notes that Congress did not ban independent political expenditures by corporations and labor unions until 1947 -- but for three decades after the law was passed, the Supreme Court "went out of its way" to avoid upholding its constitutionality.
He says it is also "completely wrong" for the president to claim the Supreme Court has cleared the way for "foreign corporations" to spend without limit on U.S. elections.

"There's a federal statute," explains the scholar, "that bans foreign corporations, foreign governments, foreign political parties, and foreign individuals from not only contributing money to federal candidates, but they also cannot engage in what's called 'independent political expenditures.' (Obama's false claims taken to task  )
(Perhaps it was OK that Obama attacked the high court though I do have some problems with him doing that  but he was even more wrong with  his facts  on the case. President Obama if you are going to attack the court have the right facts.)

(Pain - the focus of Nebraska abortion debate

Nebraska's legislators have before them a bill that would ban late-term abortions. (Pain - the focus of Nebraska abortion debate )

State Senator Mike Flood, speaker of the Nebraska Legislature, recently introduced the "Abortion Pain Prevention Act" -- a measure that would ban abortions after 20 weeks in the womb. Flood believes babies should not be forced to experience the excruciating pain of abortion.

"The medical science shows that doctors right now [who are] performing neonatal surgeries on babies in the womb...administer anesthesia for the very reason that these babies do feel pain," the senator explains. "They grimace when pricked with a needle stick."

(Lets all hope and pray this bill will pass. When this bill is passed it  would make this Nebraskan proud of his home state. Of course we know the pro. death movement will do everything in it's power to fight this bill.)

Muslim group irked by 'Christian' comment from the Lancaster Mayor

The mayor of Lancaster, California, is being criticized for telling residents that their town is a growing Christian community and they should be proud of that.

Mayor R. Rex Parris made the remarks at the end of his annual State of the City address last week.

The Greater Los Angeles area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has denounced the comments.

(OH my you can no longer say something which suggests an American city now has a majority of Christians. If this is not correct I challenge  those who are part of the Council on American-Islamic Relations to prove this  mayor is wrong. Read more on this issue Muslim group irked by 'Christian' comment.)

Abortion foes feel betrayed by Sen. Nelson

(Here is part of a story that was in my local paper last Friday.)

As Nebraska abortion opponents prepare for Saturday's “Walk for Life'' protest, they're feeling burned by two officeholders they have supported.

They are upset with recent actions by U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, a Democrat, and University of Nebraska Regent Jim McClurg, a Republican.

Nelson voted for health care legislation that did not include abortion language sought by the National Right to Life organization. McClurg voted to allow expanded stem cell research at the university.

Both men were endorsed by Nebraska Right to Life when they ran for office.

“I think our rank and file is ready to hold some feet to the fire,” said Denise Ashby of Lincoln, chairwoman of the group's political action committee. “They're just really, really getting tired of getting told one thing and shown another.”

Some abortion opponents say Nelson's vote for the Senate health care bill was a betrayal.

Nelson said Thursday that he betrayed no one, least of all his personal convictions. He said he opposes abortion because his children were adopted at birth.

“I'm pro-life,” he said. “I didn't bend my principles. We just had a difference of opinion about some language in legislation.

“I believe my language would have prevented federal dollars from being used for elective abortion. The discussion seems to have gotten personal and partisan.”

(Mr. Nelson can put all the spin on this but the fact is the health care bill he voted for will use the money of  tax payers to pay for abortions. He can no longer call himself pro life. I guess he can still say he is  but no pro lifer will believe him. Read more of the above story Abortion foes feel betrayed.)

Scott Brown defends pro-abortion stance

Republican Sen.-elect Scott Brown of Massachusetts says he opposes federal funding for abortions, but thinks women should have the right to choose whether to have one.

Brown told ABC's This Week that he disagrees with his party's position that the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion should be overturned. The incoming lawmaker says the abortion question is one that's best handled by a woman, her family and her doctor. (Scott Brown defends pro-abortion stance )

(I hope we don't need to prepare for another member of the GOP to let us down. I hope Mr. Brown's focus doesn't become why the GOP is wrong on abortion. I hope he will put his focus more on why he was voted into office rather than what he doesn't agree with his own party on. I also hope he said a lot of other things to ABC and they just published this part because they are part of the anti life crowd.)

The USSR Isn't Dead Yet

Police detained up to 100 anti-Kremlin protesters, including leading opposition figure Boris Nemtsov, in central Moscow on Sunday, despite an appeal by rights group Amnesty International to let the rally go ahead.

Hundreds of people gathered to protest against what they say is a long-running Kremlin campaign to dismantle the constitutional right to peaceful protest, one of the few avenues open to Russia's weak and fragmented opposition.

Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister, is leader of the opposition group Solidarity and one of the toughest critics of the Kremlin and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
( I admit I don't know too much about this protest however it looks to me and as for awhile that the old Soviet Union isn't dead yet. By that I mean the kind of government running that nation. Read more on this issue Police detain opposition leader at anti-Kremlin rally.)

Flag on the Play: Tim Tebow Stands up for Life: Charles Colson

It’s good to be alive. But don’t say that too loud. Someone might claim you’re being too political.

Heisman-winning quarterback Tim Tebow knows how to play offense. He also knows to expect opposition. Unfortunately, off the field, there’s no one to throw a flag when the other side plays rough.

But that’s exactly what’s been happening. Earlier this week, Focus on the Family announced that University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, and his mother Pam, would appear in a 30-second commercial on Super Bowl Sunday. The theme of the ad sponsored by Focus, and now raising such ire, is simply, “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.”

Focus on the Family’s spokesperson, Gary Schneeberger, said the ad’s goal “is to...help folks who are watching come to us if they’re struggling in their marriage or struggling raising their children.” Three cheers for Focus.

While I’ve yet to see the ad myself, anyone familiar with Tebow’s story and faith should have an idea of what to expect. Tim’s parents were missionaries in the Philippines when Pam found out she was expecting. After a series of grave complications, doctors encouraged her to abort the baby. The parents refused. Born small and weak, Timmy struggled from the beginning, but overcame the odds.

In his sophomore year playing for the University of Florida he earned the Heisman trophy. He also led his team to two BCS championships during his college career.

When he’s not wearing shoulder pads and his famous eye-black interlaid with Bible verses, Tebow is also shining off the field. During his college career, he spent spring breaks and summers ministering to orphans in the Philippines. Meanwhile, on free weekends, you could often find him behind bars, reaching out to prisoners.

Now as Tebow prepares himself for the NFL draft day, news of the 30-second spot is creating a terrific stir.

The National Organization for Women and a host of other organizations are pressuring CBS to pull the ad. Many, including ABC News, are calling it too “political.”

Please. People need to understand one thing: The political always involves morality; but not all morality is political.

Tebow and Focus on the Family are calling the right play. Like any good team, they are playing offense—advancing the values of human dignity, and using one of the most watched evenings of television to open arms to those who may be hurting and alone.

( The above is part of a radio commentary Charles Colson did at the end of last week. Yes good for Tim Tebow, his family and Focus on the Family. As I posted last week if Tebow's mom was doing a TV spot in which she said I am glad I aborted my son The National Organization for Women would be 100% behind the spot. The pro. choice movement is really pro. death. They only want women to have the right to choice when they are going to decide to kill the baby. Read more of what Colson wrote  Flag on the Play or listen to it right here.)
