7-year-old Rio queen parades, in tears...

A seven-year-old has broken down crying as she took the controversial lead of a Rio de Janeiro carnival parade.

Julia Lira became the youngest drum corps queen in memory, but her role has sparked much debate in Brazil.

A judge had earlier over-ruled objections from a child rights agency that said it was inappropriate given the carnival's sexual focus.

Tourism officials have estimated about 730,000 visitors have arrived in Rio for the party.

Julia led the Viradouro samba parade into the packed Sambadrome wearing a sequined halter top and miniskirt made of purple feathers.

Her father, Marco, who is Viradouro's president, took her by the hand and presented her to the crowd.

But 10 minutes into the parade, as she was surrounded by photographers and reporters, she burst into tears.

"She cried because there were a lot of people on top of her," Mr Lira said.

(This is a child and there is no-way she should be put on display for others to watch like she was an animal at some zoo. Read more on this story 7-year-old Rio queen parades, in tears.)

Saudi Officials Against Valentine's Day

Saudi Arabia has launched a nationwide crackdown on stores selling items that are red or otherwise allude to the banned celebration of Valentine's Day.

A Saudi official says the feared religious police are inspecting shops for red roses, heart-shaped products or gifts wrapped in red, and ordering storeowners to get rid of them. (Please don't send me roses)

Red-colored or heart-shaped items are legal at other times of the year, but as Feb. 14 nears they become contraband in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom bans celebration of Western holidays such as Valentine's Day, named after a Christian saint said to have been martyred by the Romans in the 3rd Century.

(What are the Saudi officials afraid of? Perhaps it is that people will see there is a loving God which sent his son to die for them  unlike  the  god  of their faith who demands they send their sons to die for him.)

University student gets probabtion for evangelist assault

A Middle Tennessee State University student has entered a plea agreement on a charge that she assaulted an evangelist on campus last year. (University student gets probabtion for evangelist assault)

The Daily News Journal of Murfreesboro reports that 23-year-old Michaela Morales received nearly a year of probation, must do 24 hours of community service and pay preacher John McGlone $80 restitution.

McGlone is with PinPoint Evangelism, based in Adair County, Ky. He and others from the ministry were speaking on an outdoor knoll at MTSU on Oct. 27, 2009.

A confrontation ensued after some students perceived McGlone's message as hateful.

( I  wonder if this had been an attack on a gay person, a black person, or anyone else who is from some group that the left loves if the attacker would have been given probabtion.)

Palin has 'mountain to climb'

A Republican consultant and pollster says a new survey showing Sarah Palin has a low favorability rating is not a "kiss of death" for her White House ambitions.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that 71 percent of Americans, including half of Republicans, do not think Sarah Palin is qualified to be president. According to the poll, 55 percent of Americans have unfavorable views of Palin, while only 37 percent have a favorable opinion of the former Alaska governor.Dave Woodard, a pollster and political scientist at Clemson University, says Republicans are usually more skeptical of their presidential candidates than Democrats are.

( I think Sarah  Palin has a lot to offer America however I think she needs not to rush into a run for any office. She needs to spend time studying the issues and letting people get to know her as a person. No debate the media has not treated her right but still that doesn't change what she needs to do. Happy Valentine’s Day True Love 2 14

I did a sermon yesterday on what true love is. I thought it fit the holiday pretty good. You can read it or watch a video of it over on my faith blog,  Happy Valentine’s Day True Love 2 14.

Too Many Pushing a 13-year-old to Play for USC and College Football

There's nothing within the contradictions and hypocrisies of NCAA law prohibiting a 13-year-old from orally committing to a college football program before he has picked a high school.

David Sills followed the rules.

David is a 6-foot-1 middle school quarterback in Delaware, deemed the next football prodigy. He wants to go to the University of Southern California. New Trojans coach Lane Kiffin wants him to go there, offering Sills a scholarship that he can't sign for another five years.

But permissibility doesn't excuse parents from condoning a stunt like this in some grab for cheap celebrity. The Sills family doesn't understand why this decision attracted national attention. They don't think it's a big deal. But perhaps they could explain the national television talk-show circuit they took last week to tell their motives while bringing more attention on a 13-year-old who should worry about being a kid.

Blame the NCAA, insists Sills' father, David.

But that's like blaming McDonald's for teenage obesity because it offers fatty foods. That doesn't mean that parents should sit by and watch their 13-year-old devour quarter-pounders like potato chips.

(I don't blame the parents alone but I think this is something the parents along with the NCAA, and football coaches need to think about. 13 year old kids aren't ready to decide where they want to go to college or play college football. This is not meant to slam USC because I have been a fan of theirs for a number of years. However being from the state of Nebraska where football is talked about 12 months of the year I can't believe the great coach  who now heads up the sport's office there Tom Osborne  would ever try to get a 13 year old to commit to the University of Nebraska. Is this what college football is coming to. The USC coaches should have encouraged this kid to keep trying his best in football , and in the classroom while having fun in life. The parents should have said my son is playing middle school football if you want to talk to him come back in 5 or 6 years. Read more of the above piece OpinionParents .)
