Tea Partiers object to speaker, cancel event

Tea Party organizers in Massachusetts cancelled a rally Sunday after receiving pressure from Republican operatives concerning a guest who was scheduled to speak.

Jesse Segovia, chairman of the Lexington Republican Committee, claims several candidates withdrew from the rally because it included Brian Camenker, who leads the pro-family organization MassResistance!. Camenker and several other candidates were invited to speak at the Tea Party event to be held on the historic Lexington Battle Green, and he was stunned by the decision to call the event off.

"The fact that the Republican Party is doing this and stopping a Tea Party that they don't like is just beyond the pale," the pro-family leader contends. "It's just extremely offensive." (

(Billy's Thoughts>>> What is the GOP thinking! A party that wants to gain the White House and have others elected to office should not be rushing it's base under the bed. )

Fired religion instructor can return

The University of Illinois says an instructor who was fired over a complaint about his presentation of Roman Catholic doctrine on homosexuality can have his job back. (See earlier story)

Howell taught "Introduction to Catholicism" and "Modern Catholic Thought." He says he was fired at the end of the spring semester after sending students an e-mail explaining Catholic teachings on homosexuality. A student complained that Howell's e-mail amounted to "hate speech."

Attorney David Hacker of the Alliance Defense Fund, which represented Howell, says the school admits no wrongdoing, but its committee on academic freedom will consider whether Howell's rights were violated. Hacker says his client should receive assurance that explaining church teachings will not result in dismissal in the future.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> This school should admit it was wrong to fire a man who was teaching a class on his church and was fired for stating church doctrine. I agree with his attorney that they should give him assurance that it won't happen again. If you like read more on this issue Fired religion instructor can return.)

White House Takes on Rush Limbaugh -- Again...

At a briefing today to discuss the administration’s efforts to rescue the auto industry, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs took on conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh—and every other critic “sitting in the cheap seats” –for criticizing the rescue of General Motors and Chrysler as a “government takeover” that smacks of socialism.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

Told by a reporter that “You had Rush Limbaugh today — today or yesterday — talking Obama Motors again,” Gibbs, who doesn’t often provide free advertising by taking on his critics by name from the podium, let fire.

“Look, Rush Limbaugh and others wanted to walk away. Rush Limbaugh and others saw a million people that worked at these factories, that worked at these parts suppliers, that had — that supported communities, and thought we should all just walk away. The president didn’t think that walking away from a million jobs in these communities made a lot of economic sense,” Gibbs said.

He was just getting up to speed.

“We’ve got auto companies that for the first time since 2004 all showed an operating profit in the first quarter of this year. It’s adding jobs. And the money that this administration invested — about $60 billion — we believe we’re on the path to recouping all of that. That’s a significant story.

“I’ll let those that sat in the cheap seats a year-and-a-half ago and wanted to walk away” from a milion workers, he continued, “explain to every one of those workers why they made that decision.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> I won't claim to speak for Rush or anyone else but I am tired of those on the left saying us on the right don't care about helping others out. A lot of us give to groups like churches and help people out  in our own lives who are hurting.  We just don't believe  those who need help should get it from Uncle Sam. Son of Sam Killer is a Changed Man Believe it or Not

During a yearlong string of shootings before his arrest in the summer of 1977, David Berkowitz, known as the Son of Sam, killed six people and wounded seven others in New York City.

Upon his confession to the shootings, the portrait of the serial killer that emerged was of a deeply disturbed loner, a man with a .44-caliber handgun who said he took orders from a demonic black Labrador retriever owned by a neighbor.

But in the years Mr. Berkowitz has been serving a 25-year-to-life sentence, he has been anything but alone. He has, it turns out, attracted an array of individuals from outside prison who, though they deplore his murderous past, have become friends, acquaintances and in some instances a kind of ad hoc set of assistants.

This circle of admirers, to a great degree, is made up of evangelical Christians, including a Town and Village Courts judge in upstate New York and a financial adviser in Manhattan, who have been moved by Mr. Berkowitz’s story of becoming a born-again Christian 23 years ago, and many of them have sought to publicize his account of redemption.

But there are others who have been drawn to him for reasons that are not religious, like the director of the mayor’s crime victims office in Houston and Daniel Lefkowitz, a Bronx teenage acquaintance of Mr. Berkowitz’s who interviewed him in 2009 for a talk show he hosts on cable-access TV in northern Westchester County.

What all these people have in common is that they have made Mr. Berkowitz, 57, the beneficiary of what has amounted to a highly unusual public relations makeover.

Inside the prison walls, the chaplain allows him to open religious services with a prayer. Most days, he works as a mobility guide, helping disabled inmates get around, and assists mentally ill inmates who may need a hand with daily activities and those who have difficulty reading or writing.

But some of those connected to the Son of Sam case express deep doubt about whether Mr. Berkowitz is truly a born-again Christian or whether he is just using religion to present himself as a changed man.

Joseph Coffey, the police sergeant who took Mr. Berkowitz’s initial confession, said his statements about his religious convictions were as believable as his amended claim that members of a satanic cult to which he belonged were responsible for some of the shootings.

“It’s a total charade to promote himself,” said Mr. Coffey, who retired from the Police Department in 1985. “I have had people who I sent to prison or put in the witness protection program find religion because it suits them by providing them access to the outside world.”

(Billy's Thoughts>>>> I know not everyone may believe it but David is a changed man. I have been one of those who have written him for a number of years. The letters he writes to me have always spoken of his desire to bring honor to the Lord and he also has encouraged me when I have been going through hard time. Now I don't believe David should be let out of prison but the truth is he has come to know Jesus and has expressed true sorrow for his crimes and sins. Those who don't believe David has been changed by God must serve a smaller God than I do. If  you are a follower of the Lord pray for David and the families who have had their lives changed in a terrible way because of what David did. If you like read all of the above story from the N.Y. Times,  Backers Give ‘Son of Sam’ Image Makeover.)

City Helps Westboro Baptist

The city of Bellevue in the state of Nebraska has decided  to  pay thousands of dollars to a controversial protestor who was accused of letting her son stand on an American flag during a   funeral  for a soldier three years ago.

Shirley Phelps Roper is a member of  that sinful  church in  Kansas (Westboro Baptist.) Now most of the people who below to that church are part of the Roper family. I guess they are the only ones who can put up with each other.  That church goes to and  pickets soldier's funerals. Roper sued Bellevue after her arrest in 2007 for violating Nebraska's flag desecration law. Nebraska shelved the law, saying it's unconstitutional. That church also has picket other places such as the funeral for the late Dr. Jerry Falwell. They also almost picketed  the funeral for the Amish  children killed in a school shootingsome years back. So we all can see this is a group which preaches and believes in hating others.

The city of Bellevue is  settling with Roper, for  $17,000. Roper  in a phone interview  told KMTV in Omaha the settlement is just the beginning. Good job Bellevue helps those who preach hate, based on what I saw in the news the majority of tax payers in this town don't agree with what their leaders did in this case. It  is also very troubling as a follower of the Lord that people get the idea this is what Jesus is all about.  That is not correct at all. By the way if  I had a son who stepped on the flag his butt would be on fire and I for sure wouldn't encourage him to do that act unlike this lady. Oliver Stone's "Secret History" by Michael Medved

( Billy's Thoughts>>>>Oscar-winning Hollywood director Oliver Stone has gotten himself in trouble  with some  anti-Semitic comments—minimizing Hitler’s  evil acts.  Below is part of a post that Michael Medved  did on his blog Oliver Stone's "Secret History".)

"These remarks should surprise no one who’s followed Stone’s long-standing hatred of Israel and, more blatantly, America.  In 1987, he told an interviewer that U.S. soldiers deserved mass slaughter to compensate for the nation’s past sins. In that context, Showtime network should cancel its plans for Stone’s ten-hour TV series “The Secret History of America.”  The cable network should never broadcast this upcoming “documentary” by an open admirer of Marxist dictators who hates his own country."

Televangelist Hinn coming up short

Televangelist Benny Hinn has posted a plea for $2 million in donations on his website. Hinn says he accumulated the deficit in the past few months because offerings at some international appearances did not cover expenses.

Hinn's reputation as an advocate of prosperity gospel has attracted millions of followers but has also drawn criticism from lawmakers and watchdog groups. He is one of six televangelists who have been targeted by federal lawmakers investigating compliance with IRS rules for nonprofits. (See related story)

Hinn has said on his website that external auditors ensure his compliance with IRS regulations and that in 2008, 88 percent of the money he collected was spent on ministry.

(Billy's Thoughts >>> Before any follower of the Lord gives to a ministry they should check to see if that ministry lines up with the Bible. Here is a truth Jesus didn't die so we could have the biggest house in the city, also God does want to live in prosperity but that doesn't mean he will give us all the money and toys in the world. God just might bless us with peace, a good family, and a good job. That is a point that some so called Bible teachers on TV are missing. Methodists review membership matter

The highest court in the United Methodist Church will review its 2005 ruling that allowed a clergyman to bar a noncelibate homosexual man from joining one of it's churches. The Judicial Council will tackle  up the issue in October, according to United Methodist News Service.

The ruling  took place five years ago,  in the case of the Rev. Ed Johnson, who was senior pastor at South Hill United Methodist Church in Virginia,  refused to allow a homosexual man, who said he was not celibate, to become a member of the congregation.

At the time, the Judicial Council  ruled in favor of  Johnson. The court ruled  a pastor  has the authority to decide whether a layman is ready for membership.

Three other regional districts are now asking the Methodist high court to reconsider.

Lets all hope this church lets the Bible guide what it does. No matter what this court decides  the Bible hasn't changed. If you like read more on this issue Methodists review membership matter.

Good for the D.C. School for Firing Teachers

A Christian educator is praising a decision by the Washington, DC, public school system to fire more than 240 teachers because of poor performance.

The dismissals of roughly six percent of the teachers in the district are mainly the result of a new teacher evaluation system that is based largely on five classroom observations of teachers and their students' standardized test scores. Those teachers who score high on the evaluation are in line for a pay increase and opportunities for merit pay. (See related article)

Finn Laursen, executive director of Christian Educators Association International, is applauding the announcement.

"How wonderful if [teachers] can be rewarded and if they can receive, quite frankly, monetary merit for being excellent educators -- for being quality educators -- [and] for unlocking that potential created in every single student," states Laursen.

Finn Laursen (CEAI)In addition, he offers a positive spin on the news that 737 other DC school employees (teachers and staff) were warned that they could be fired in the next year if their performance does not improve. ( Educator excellence - a fair expectation )

(Billy's Thoughts>> I have posted before I want the bad schools to close and the bad teachers to be fired. It is time we forget how upset the NEA gets and we focus on what is best for the children. However the D.C. schools still have a long ways to go to improve but at least some soul is trying to help the kids. )

Fed's argument against AZ law 'ludicrous'

An Arizona sheriff on the front lines in the battle against illegal immigration believes the Supreme Court will ultimately have to overturn Wednesday's ruling that blocked implementation of most of the new state measure cracking down on those who are in the country illegally.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton handed a victory to President Barack Obama and supporters of illegal aliens by blocking the most significant sections of Arizona's new immigration law from taking effect Thursday. She gutted the sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws, the requirement that immigrants carry their papers at all times, and the section banning illegals from soliciting employment in public places. (See related video)

Sheriff Larry DeverLarry Dever is serving his fourth term as sheriff of Cochise County, which, as a border county, is part of the entry route taken regularly by illegal aliens. He believes this case will be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court.

"Our best chance at a favorable decision is...to solve this once and for all. States have a right to protect themselves," Dever contends. He adds that "the lame argument in federal government that this law somehow interferes with their ability to enforce immigration law is just ludicrous" because "they're not getting it done to begin with."

(Billy's Thoughts>>> I hope Dever is right. I believe he is right far as  radical judges which don't follow the rule of law which is another reason for us to work to get a different president in the White House.  A key when we vote to put somebody in the White House is the kind of judges he will place on the court. If you like you can read more on what  Dever said Fed's argument against AZ law 'ludicrous'.)

Taxing Problem

Here is something Cal Thomas wrote in one of his columns :

In another country also called America, there were no credit cards and excessive debt was seen as a character . In that America, my grandparents and their parents had discussions when they wanted to buy almost anything. The conversations focused on two questions: can we afford it and do we need it? If the answer to either question was "no," they didn't buy it.

So much of our personal and public debt in modern America comes from a refusal to ask these questions. We don't need much of what we have and we certainly can't afford it. But we buy it anyway.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> To hear  more of my thoughts on the above watch a video I just posted last night. )

Praying pro-lifers see positive results

Pro-lifers who prayed at a well-publicized abortion clinic in Rockford, Illinois, are claiming success after a number of women chose life over abortion.

The clinic is nationally known for the verbal attacks initiated by the landlord against God and Christians, and also for that owner's degrading attacks against pro-life prayer warriors. Residents from the city recently surrounded the clinic, along with Roman Catholic priests and Protestants, and silently prayed for the unborn who were scheduled to be aborted.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> This should again show God does answer prayer bless him and bless those who are standing up for life. If you like to read more about this answer to prayer http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=1100852.)
