Children with cancer, heart defects and other serious illness sometimes have
to wait weeks to see a specialist.
Shortening those waits is a key goal of a $55 million outpatient center at
Children's Hospital & Medical Center that will open next week.
“If your child is sick, any amount of waiting is too long,'' said Cherie
Lytle, a spokeswoman for Children's.
Employees on Monday got their first look inside the building, which opens to
patients Sept. 1.
.
Demand has grown for outpatient specialty care, and the new building will
give Children's more capacity, Lytle said. Children's draws patients from across
the region, including Iowa, Kansas and Missouri for its outpatient services.
