Pastors spoke up - will IRS respond and Who Would Jesus Vote for

A conservative law firm is waiting for a response from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) over the latest "Pulpit Freedom Sunday."

According to the Alliance Defense Fund, the event was a success. Attorney Erik Stanley reports that about 100 pastors from 30 states participated in the firm's third annual Pulpit Freedom Sunday, a legal effort designed to secure pastors' First Amendment rights. (See earlier story)

"All of this with the goal of protecting a pastor's right to speak freely from the pulpit without fearing any government censorship or control," Stanley explains. "So it was a great success, and we're looking forward to what may come after this." (
Pastors spoke up - will IRS respond?)

Erik Stanley (Alliance Defense Fund)He goes on to tell OneNewsNow that most people probably fail to realize that pastors do not have the same freedom of speech as non-pastors. "What pastors can and cannot say from the pulpit about the issue of candidates in elections is governed by the IRS and the Internal Revenue Code," he notes.

But during church service on Sunday, September 26, the nearly 100 pastors talked about the issues, and in some cases, they endorsed candidates in an effort to challenge the regulation that activist groups often use to silence churches.

(Billy's Thoughts>>>> When I go to church I don't want to be told  who to vote for but  how to know my Savior Jesus and what the Bible says. I think at times Pastors do need to address moral issues like abortion but preaching time should never be used to try to elect somebody to office no matter if that person is from the left or the right. )

'Legalized abuse' in Canada will be appealed

A pro-family activist in Canada is applauding a decision by that country's justice minister to appeal the ruling of an Ontario Judge who gutted federal prostitution laws in the province.

The Globe and Mail reports that Justice Susan Himel struck down all three Criminal Code provisions that had been challenged -- communicating for the purposes of prostitution, pimping, and operating a "common bawdy house." Himel argued the current laws endangered more than protected prostitutes. (See earlier article)

Brian Rushfeldt, executive director of Canada Family Action, sees things a different way.

Canada Family Action"She's in essence legalizing it as long as you do prostitution now within your home or within a brothel," he remarks. "It's atrocious to think that a judge could ever endorse prostitution, which really is an abuse and a violence against all women when it comes down to it. Bakery displays morals, now faces eviction

An Indianapolis cookie shop could be evicted from its longtime location for refusing a special order from a college homosexual group.

Gay pride flagThe bakery "Just Cookies" has operated in a city-owned market for over 20 years. The president of the board that oversees the market told the Indianapolis Star that he would "hate to lose them" as a tenant -- but that could very well happen because owner David Stockton took a moral stand and did not want to endorse homosexual activity. Controversy arose this week after the owners of the bakery cited moral objections to a special-order request for rainbow-decorated cookies for next week's "National Coming Out Day" observance at a nearby university campus. Stockton told the caller he did not feel comfortable in supporting homosexual values, especially because it would not set a good example for his two daughter.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> Good for this business. I never thought I would see the day when a business  is forced to do something it doesn't believe in. If  a business can't fulfill an order of mine I don't try to force them to close or move I go to a business which can do it. Of course we know this is taking place because those living the gay life are now part of that special group of people that the courts, the media, and even some political leaders give special rights to. SOCIAL NETWORK: Student filmed having sex commits suicide...

It was a fatal blow struck from cyberspace.

A shy Rutgers freshman was so humiliated when two cruel classmates secretly streamed live video of his gay encounter that he leaped to his death from the George Washington Bridge, authorities said yesterday.

"Jumping off the gw bridge sorry," Tyler Clementi, 18, posted on his Facebook page just eight minutes before his plunge at around 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Clementi's suicide led to a swift criminal probe and the arrest of his roommate, Dharun Ravi, and a fellow freshman, Molly Wei, for their alleged vile voyeurism. ( SOCIAL NETWORK: Student filmed having sex commits suicide... )

(Billy's Thoughts>>> This is sad. We need to teach young people that with the new media comes responsibility. The people who filmed this kid should be dealt with as tough as the courts can. Please pray for this young man's family.)

Congress flees DC to campaign

– Battle-weary members of Congress are coming soon to neighborhoods near you to press for re-election, more willing to campaign before angry constituents than to compromise in Washington on tax cuts, child nutrition or a federal budget.

Democratic congressional leaders decided to call off controversial votes on taxes and President Barack Obama's latest spending requests and instead pass a temporary bill to keep the government running through November. Some Democrats facing particularly tough re-election fights joined Republicans in protest, saying Congress should stay in session and get more done before facing voters Nov. 2.

"The Senate should be more concerned about doing what's right for the country and less concerned about campaign season," said Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> This is an outrage. People are suffering because of what our leaders in D.C. are doing but our leaders decide keeping their jobs are more important than doing what they were elected to do. It ashame and sham! Read more on this issue  Congress flees DC to campaign.)

More families, friends move in together due to dismal economy...

The Grundy family seemed to be headed down the conventional path followed by American families: Daughter goes to college, graduates, gets a job and her own apartment.

Then something happened.

"She lost her job," Vel Grundy says about daughter Monika, 25. "She kept looking and got very, very discouraged. She moved back home." (More families, friends move in together due to dismal economy... )

Grown children returning home. Brothers and sisters moving in together. Families taking in grandparents. Friends living in the basement.

Fueled by the dismal economy and high unemployment, more Americans — friends and families — are doubling up.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> I think this is a good idea because you should depend on your family and church instead of depending on Uncle Sam. )

Ted Turner on global warming: ..

Speaking at the Colorado Conservation Voters annual fall luncheon today, media mogul Ted Turner scolded the United States for failing to sign the Kyoto Protocol and said the rest of the world is waiting for the United States to take a leadership role in clean energy and climate change.

“It is such a complicated issue,” Turner said of climate change. “It is the most complicated issue humanity has ever faced. It is easy to be a naysayer, and the opposition has learned that it is easier to do nothing. They have done a good job of casting some doubt on global warming.”

(Billy's Thoughts>>> So old Ted is blaming the big bad wolf The USA for the problems of this world. We don't need climate change we need a change in our culture that can only come from God. Read more on this issue Ted Turner on global warming: )

Protestants' poor showing not a shocker

A newly released survey reveals Protestants rank fourth in knowledge of religion behind atheists, agnostics, Jews, and Mormons. The survey, released Tuesday by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, aimed to test a broad range of religious knowledge, including understanding of the Bible, core teachings of different faiths, and major figures in religious history. (See earlier story)

Mark Tooley, president of the Institute on Religion & Democracy, says he isn't surprised at the ranking of Protestants in the survey's findings.

Mark Tooley"I suspect it's not anything new that even many Protestants don't readily know who Martin Luther was," he offers. "And of course churches need to do a better job, not just in terms of preaching the most important message, which is salvation in Jesus Christ, and the specific traditions of their faith -- but also more broadly the history of their tradition and religion overall."

Canadian judge decriminalizes prostitution

Prostitutes in portions of Canada may soon be able to solicit clients openly without having to dodge the cops.

Arguing that current laws endanger more than protect prostitutes, Ontario Superior Court Judge Susan Himel yesterday struck down all three criminal provisions -- pimping, operating a "common bawdy house," and communicating for the purposes of prostitution -- that had been challenged by two former prostitutes and a female sadomasochist.

"By increasing the risk of harm to street prostitutes, the communicating law is simply too high a price to pay for the alleviation of social nuisance," Himel stated in her ruling. "I find that the danger faced by prostitutes greatly outweighs any harm which may be faced by the public."

(Billy's Thoughts>> Ladies who are prostitutes don't need the government or laws to bless them they need help which might

include a trip to jail. If you like you can read more of the above story Canadian judge decriminalizes prostitution.)

Judge blocks execution of Albert Greenwood Brown

A federal judge  yesterday  blocked the execution of convicted rapist and murderer Albert Greenwood Brown, saying there was "no way" the court could conduct an adequate review of the state's new lethal-injection procedures before the death  sentence was to be carried out Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel in effect reversed his Friday ruling that the execution could go forward if the state gave Brown the option of dying by a single-injection method used in other states, rather than the three-drug cocktail prescribed by California's new regulations.

No matter what one thinks of capital punishment we should pray to God that this killer will see God has allowed him to keep living so he might start to think about the Lord, spiritual things, and where he will spend the next life. We also should pray for the love ones of  the people this man killed and those he raped. It has to be hard on them to keep thinking about the crimes and the punishment this man should get. Obama: 'Christian by choice'

President Barack Obama, in a rare discussion about his religious beliefs, described himself on Tuesday as a "Christian by choice" who arrived at his faith in adulthood because "the precepts of Jesus Christ" helped him envision the kind of life he wanted to lead.

Obama talked about his beliefs when he was asked, "Why are you a Christian." The question was posed by a woman at a backyard conversation here, part of a series of meetings Obama is holding to talk informally with Americans.

"I'm a Christian by choice," Obama told his audience here. "My family didn't - frankly, they weren't folks who went to church every week. And my mother was one of the most spiritual people I knew, but she didn't raise me in the church.

"So I came to my Christian faith later in life, and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead - being my brothers' and sisters' keeper, treating others as they would treat me," he continued.

"And I think also understanding that Jesus Christ dying for my sins spoke to the humility we all have to have as human beings, that we're sinful and we're flawed and we make mistakes, and that we achieve salvation through the grace of God," Obama said. "But what we can do, as flawed as we are, is still see God in other people and do our best to help them find their own grace."

(Billy's Thoughts>> No one knows President Obama's heart but the Lord. So I  won't judge his salvation but the things he stands  aren't things a person who is growing in their faith should stand for.  He is the most radical pro abortion President. He seems to be more pride when talking of the Islam faith than the Christian faith. He backs special rights for gays and allowing them to serve in the military.
