Live your faith - lose your job?

Bible and crossA Virginia Beach TV weatherman has been fired -- and the reasons management gave him were all related to his after-hours ministry.

Jon Cash, a 21-year employee of WAVY-TV, appeared on the station's highly rated morning show, but also traveled as an evangelist preaching at area churches large and small. Earlier this year, management came to him about his ministry -- and Cash agreed to some correction. (Live your faith - lose your job? )

"[On] August 31 they came to me and apparently had somebody come in and heard me preach and say that I'm planning to eventually give up my television job when my contract was over and pursue full-time ministry because that's the Lord's calling," he recalls. "And I was abruptly fired."

Jon Cash (meteorologist, evangelist)Cash says WAVY general manager Doug Davis told him that going into full-time ministry was "bad for business."

(Billy's Thoughts>>> Let me get this a TV station is so fearful that somebody in the media might say something kindly about God that they sent people to watch what he did at church. Lets hope those persons heard the truth about Christ in their hearts. What is wrong with somebody in the media being a follower of Jesus. If  a person of another faith had been fired the ACLU and others would be demanding he get his job and have his day in court but not for us who follow the Lord of the Bible. )

MCDONALD'S, 29 other firms get ObamaCare waivers

Nearly a million workers won't get a consumer protection in the U.S. health reform law meant to cap insurance costs because the government exempted their employers.

Thirty companies and organizations, including McDonald's (MCD) and Jack in the Box (JACK), won't be required to raise the minimum annual benefit included in low-cost health plans, which are often used to cover part-time or low-wage employees.

The Department of Health and Human Services, which provided a list of exemptions, said it granted waivers in late September so workers with such plans wouldn't lose coverage from employers who might choose instead to drop health insurance altogether.

Without waivers, companies would have had to provide a minimum of $750,000 in coverage next year, increasing to $1.25 million in 2012, $2 million in 2013 and unlimited in 2014. (MCDONALD'S, 29 other firms get ObamaCare waivers...

(Billy's Thoughts>>> Perhaps my doctor is right and Obamacare is so watered down before it becomes law that it won't make much of an impact. I hope so but we must still work to get rid of it starting by who we vote for next month. )

Christian coach's lawsuit settled

A wrestling coach who claimed he lost his job at a  Detroit high school  for being a follower of Jesus   has settled the lawsuit for $24,500.Gerald Marszalek, who is 65, also received $500 from Dearborn Public Schools in exchange for waiving any claim of age discrimination.

related article buttonMarszalek was a coach at Fordson High School, where Muslim kids  are a majority. The coach says  his troubles with the school's Muslim principal, Imad Fadlallah, began in 2005 when a volunteer assistant, the Rev. Trey Hancock, introduced some wrestlers to Christianity during a camp away from school.

If you can explain this to me followers of Islam want the freedom to follow their faith but they don't want to give that freedom to others.  They have got to get it through their heads we don't do things like their nations do (though at times in the government schools it is a close call) people can follow any faith or no faith in America. This could be another reason to get your kids out of the government schools.  If you care read more on this issue Christian coach's lawsuit settled

Heineman: Arizona just the first

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, whose tough stance on illegal immigration fueled his winning campaign four years ago, says he expects every state in the union to consider Arizona-type proposals next year.

But the governor admitted Monday that while states will discuss allowing local police to arrest undocumented immigrants, “This doesn’t mean (proposals) are going to pass.” Heineman spoke before an appearance Monday in Omaha.

The Arizona law now faces several hurdles  according to  those who  keep track of the  immigration issue nationally.

One is is the courts: Arizona’s law is tied up in court, a battle that could take two years and a trip to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Another is financial: With states facing historic revenue shortfalls and the prospect of higher taxes or layoffs, they might be reluctant to pass legislation that would spark an expensive court battle and bring costly new job requirements for state troopers and local police.

I hope states all around America will do what this state out west has tried to do. If you care to read more about this issue click on the following link,  Heineman: Arizona just the first.

Maryland considers imposing ambulance Tax

County Executive Ike Leggett said Tuesday about one in 10 county firefighters would lose his or her job if voters reject a new ambulance fee in November.

Under Leggett's plan, 107 fire and rescue positions, mostly emergency medical service jobs, would be eliminated out of a fire department staff of 1,077.

With just 20 of the positions vacant, 87 fire department workers would be handed pink slips.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> We are living in tough times so what is the answer from government to cut waste no bring about a tax on those who need emergency help.  I just wonder if these jobs could be saved if this state would look at how much pork and waste the tax payers are paying for. $162 million in stimulus funds not disclosed...

 — Recovery.gov promised transparency on how the government spends every dollar of stimulus money, but there's $162 million the website doesn't disclose.

Recipients of 352 federal stimulus contracts, grants and loans have failed to report how they spent the money, the status of their projects or how many jobs were funded, according to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). ($162 million in stimulus funds not disclosed...

(Billy's Thoughts>> So those who have paid and are paying for this spending don't know how it was spent and may never know. Welcome to government spending and waste. )

Pastor to IRS: Listen to my sermon

Americans United for Separation of Church and State wants the Internal Revenue Service to investigate an Edmond, Oklahoma, pastor.

Americans United executive director Barry Lynn says the Rev. Paul Blair violated a law that prohibits tax-exempt churches from endorsing or opposing candidates for public office.

Lynn told The Oklahoman newspaper that he's written to the IRS asking the agency to investigate.

Blair announced from the pulpit of Fairview Baptist Church on Sunday that he plans to vote for Republican Mary Fallin for governor. (Pastor to IRS: Listen to my sermon )

Government Schools Fight God

ACLUA small school district in northeast Nebraska went  ahead with plans to host a Christian speaker yesterday  despite threats from the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU is threatening legal action if the Lyons-Decatur Northeast schools allowed Keith Becker to speak at a school assembly. Students will not be required to attend, but the ACLU says that does not matter, arguing that "a school day event with one religious belief represented, whether voluntary or not, still is illegal."

Becker, founder and director of the Todd Becker Foundation, says the group is misinformed. "What we do is 100-percent appropriate for public schools," he assures. He tells OneNewsNow that he has been to more than 175 public schools across Nebraska -- and "if what we did crossed lines, we simply would not have been able to do what we've done for six years."

Dobson: Federal abortion ban unlikely

A leader in the Christian conservative movement doesn't think the federal government will ever ban abortion, but he remains hopeful the states will take care of the issue within their own legislatures.

Dr. James Dobson, founder and chairman emeritus of Focus on the Family, says he does not think abortion will be completely banned in the U.S. -- but he is willing to settle for less. (  Dobson: Federal abortion ban unlikely )

"I would be willing to settle for each state making a decision, and we'll fight that out in the state legislatures in 50 states. I just don't see the Supreme Court saying this is flat-out illegal," he laments. "I wish they would, but I don't think that will happen."

(Billy's Thoughts>>> If Dr. Dobson is correct this should show us that politics is not going to change our death culture. What we need to do is support those who are offering women something better than abortion and we must pray for a spiritual and moral change in this nation. )

ObamaCare will lead to 'waiting list' for poor

A French-Canadian physician who challenged Canada's government control of healthcare before the Canadian Supreme Court is delivering a dire warning regarding the implementation of ObamaCare in the U.S.

As a general practitioner in Montreal, Dr. Jacques Chaoulli has seen the adverse effects that government control of healthcare has on patients. In 2005, he launched a Supreme Court challenge against Quebec's ban on private healthcare because underprivileged individuals had no means to access timely care and were being forced to wait in long lines.

Dr. Jacques Chaoulli"The poor are penalized under government healthcare because they don't have the flexibility to choose private healthcare," Chaoulli points out. "In Canada, those who are well-off...don't mind that there is a government healthcare [system] because if they really need fast access to healthcare, they just travel to the United States [where] they get it fast. (

(Billy's Thoughts>>> Obamacare is not good for all of America including those who don't have much to spend on healthcare. )

Prop. 8 judge calling it quits

Judge Vaughn WalkerThe federal judge whose August 4 ruling overturned Proposition 8 in California is retiring.

Prop. 8, the state constitutional amendment approved by seven million California voters in November 2008, defines marriage as between one man and one woman. But presiding over the nation's first federal court trial on same-sex "marriage," Judge Vaughn Walker overturned that measure and legalized such unions. His decision, however, is being appealed to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
