Edwards brings dose of reality to breast cancer

The death of Elizabeth Edwards to breast cancer highlights the reality of the disease, according to local oncologists.

Edwards, wife of prominent Politian and former Presidential candidate Senator John Edwards, died Tuesday morning after a long battle with breast cancer. (Edwards brings dose of reality to breast cancer )

Kaiser Permanente oncologist Dr. Jenny Devitt expects to see an increase in nervous patients following Edwards' death.

"When someone who has a similar disease as you develops an adverse outcome there's a lot of fear. Women think, maybe it's going to happen to me. If it can happen to this great woman whose a writer and attorney and she succumbed to it, what can happen to me? So there will be more fear about what could happen," said Dr. Devitt.
(Billy's Thoughts>>> No matter what you think of Sen. John Edwards or his politics lets all pray for  him and his family as they deal with the death of their wife, mother, etc. )

The War on Christmas

So is there really a war on Christmas and how should us who follow Jesus respond to it. I deal with that subject in yesterday's radio commentary.

Steve Johnson Tweet: Blaming God for Your Drops Doesn't Change Anything

Steve Johnson tweeted his feelings about his drop after the game. The tweet is priceless, so let's take a look.

"I praise you 24/7!!! And this how you do me!!! You expect me to learn from this???How??? I'll never forget this!! Ever!! Thx Tho."

That tweet allegedly came from Johnson's Twitter account, and Johnson hasn't surfaced to deny it since it hit the Internet last night, so for right now we have to assume it was him and not someone hacking into his Twitter account.

Blaming God for his drop is like thanking God for a victory: It assumes whatever God you believe in actually cares about football and is doing things to affect the outcome. ( Steve Johnson Tweet: Blaming God for Your Drops Doesn't Change Anything)

)

(Billy's Thoughts>> This news report is from a few days ago but since then  Johnson has said he wasn't blaming God. Lets say he was blaming God. Instead of getting upset  with him us who know God should explain to him God doesn't always promise you will win a football game, or get a job. He cares more about touching your soul than allowing you to make great catches.)

Know Who Is Speaking at Your Child's College

Do you know who is speaking at the colleges you pay for your children to go to? Also do you know what the different speakers believe? If not you better look into it. I talk about this on my radio commentary for today. Christians differ on lifting 'don't ask, don't tell'

Most American Christians -- with the exception of white evangelicals -- favor letting homosexual men and women serve openly in the military, according to a new survey. (Read: Pentagon study dismisses risk of 'gay' troops)

The poll was conducted this month by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life as the Pentagon prepared to release its study on how lifting the "don't ask, don't tell" policy would affect the armed forces.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> These so called Christians and some may only be Christian in name not in fact don't know their Bibles. The Bible calls the gay lifestyle a sin. If you like read more on this issue Christians differ on lifting 'don't ask, don't tell'.)

Dr. Laura Coming Back to Radio

Talk-show host Laura Schlessinger won't stay away from radio very long - only a weekend, in fact. Sirius XM Radio Inc. said Monday it has a multiyear deal with Schlessinger to bring her "Dr. Laura" advice program to satellite radio in January. Specific terms were not revealed.

Schlessinger had said in August she was quitting her syndicated radio program, a week after she apologized for using the N-word on the air 11 times while talking to a black woman, and activists demanded her ouster.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> This is good news for all of us who are Dr. Laura fans and bad news for those who hate her and the values she encourages. If you like read more of the above story Laura Schlessinger shifts to satellite radio.)

School brings back the pledge

Principal Jerry Kalina wasn't sure how his students would react.

If he reinstated the daily Pledge of Allegiance this year, would students at Papillion-La Vista High School stand and join in the voluntary patriotic gesture?

His idea passed with flying colors.

“I think a hundred percent of our kids stand,” he said.

Kalina said he received about 50 e-mails and nearly 100 phone calls supporting the change, which was one of the top items on Kalina's to-do list after taking over this year for retired Principal Jim Glover.

His decision puts Papillion-La Vista among the majority of metropolitan Omaha high schools, according to checks with area districts. Not all do the pledge daily or weekly — Creighton Prep and Omaha North don't do it, though officials say North is reinstituting it. (School brings back the pledge)

(Billy's Thoughts>>> Finally at last some good news from our government schools even though I still believe that most kids should be in private schools I welcome this news. By the way one of the schools from above who don't say the pledge is a private catholic school while the other is a public school. I believe kids should say the pledge starting in grade school. We need to teach our children to love America.)
