Tens and thousands of Wisconsin demonstrators have clogged the streets
surrounding the State Capitol for over a week now. Protestors oppose Governor
Scott Walker's proposed budget repair bill that would eliminate 50 years of
collective bargaining.
Sliding on ice-covered steps and jamming the square in front of
the State Capitol, mostly supporters of organized unions chant, "What's
disgusting? Union busting." The Associated Press reports that neither
side appears ready to budge -- that Walker says he will not negotiate, and that
Democratic senators who have fled the state say they will not return until the
governor does.
The offices of Wisconsin Family
Action are just two blocks from the State Capitol. President Julaine Appling
says unsustainable state government debt hurts families and that the governor's
proposal is "a reasonable approach" to balance the state budget -- but the
protests in Madison, she says, are "beyond belief." (A game of 'political
chicken' in Madison)
(Billy's Thoughts>>> The people of Wisconsin knew what Gov. Walker was going to do when they voted for him in the last election. Walker is not doing anything that he did not say he would do. If these folks don't like what he is doing they should try harder in the next election to get somebody to run who will push their ideas on the state.)
