Lennon was a closet Republican:

John Lennon was a Ronald Reagan fan? That's what his personal assistant says in a new documentary. This might shock those who thought they knew Lennon  but  wait and see. I hope above all that Lennon came to faith in Christ before his death.  Read the story here.

AL tornado victims' divine appointment

This past week, roughly 30 staff members from Pine Cove Christian Camps of Tyler, Texas, put on a camp at a church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for about 150 youngsters, many of whom lost nearly everything in April's twister. The trip was planned long before the tornado struck, and spokesman Jason Wallace says his group knew they needed to contact the church to see what they could do.

"We wanted to help them find a creative way to reach out to the community, and that's really what base camp does by providing camp on a church property," he explains. "And so we were going there anyway. When all this happened, obviously it was painful. We called them the day of and wanted to make sure they were doing okay, but we're really excited to see this as an opportunity to really bless the community. So I think they ended up giving away about two-thirds of the camp to kids who had been affected by the tornado," which means those kids receive scholarships to attend.

According to Wallace, the event was a divine appointment. (AL tornado victims' divine appointment )

"In preparation for us coming, I called our contact person there. And when she was telling me all the stories of all the people who had responded as they gave out scholarships to those who were affected by the tornado and how the community had rallied around to give money to the people who had been affected by the tornado so the kids could go to the camp, we were...both on the phone, just amazed at what God had done," the spokesman shares.
(Billy's Thoughts>>> God does use all things including those that we would call bad things. God Bless this camp and their work.)

Congressman: U.N. 'rarely' does right thing for our Jewish Friends

The Palestinians are planning a multi-nation public relations tour to try and convince U.N. member nations to support a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state.

On Sunday, Palestinian leaders in the West Bank formally decided that come September, they will seek U.N. recognition of a state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem.

As recently reported on OneNewsNow, Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R) has introduced H.R. 2261 in response to the Palestinian Authority's lobbying of United Nations Assembly members. (Congressman: U.N. 'rarely' does right thing )

Thaddeus McCotter (R-Michigan)"We could cut off the funding to the U.N. if they go ahead and unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state," he explains. "It's always best to be prepared when it comes to the U.N., because rarely do you want to try to assume what they're going to do, because rarely do they seem to know what they're doing, and rarely do they seem to do the right thing."

(Billy's Thoughts>>> I believe we should have stopped supporting the UN years ago but for  sure  if  this declaration passes we will have no choice  even though our president is anti Israel.)

School choice = independent families = strong state

A Wisconsin pro-family group thinks Governor Scott Walker's (R) signing into law a bill that creates the largest expansion of school-choice programs will strengthen the state.

The expansion was included in the state's budget bill for 2011 through 2013. It increases the income eligibility for the program, and it removes the cap on the number of participants.

"Our budget that the governor just signed this past Sunday is definitely a major step forward to strengthen the independence of the family unit," notes Julaine Appling of the Wisconsin Family Council. "And when that happens, when our families are strong and independent of government, the state is strong."

Defending school choice in Colorado and Give Poor Kids a Chance

The Institute for Justice has filed an intervention on behalf of Colorado school board to defend their school-choice program.

The ACLU, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and several other organizations filed suit to prevent the Douglas County School Board from implementing the program, which would award modest scholarships to 500 students. Those groups argue that some parents would choose religious schools for their children's education, thereby violating the state constitution's prohibition on aid to such schools. (Defending school choice in Colorado )

Michael Bindas of The Institute for Justice filed an intervention in Denver District Court on behalf of four families in two cases.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> Why is the Americans United for Separation of Church and State, part of this case don't they have anything better to do. What does keeping faith out of the schools have to do with this case unless they are fighting that faith based schools do a better than the government schools do of educating children. If they don't think school choice should be allowed based on that perhaps us who are people of faith should demand our money back which goes to the government schools. Also what would they say to the poor parents who right now have to send their children to schools which are failing them. The question I have and still have shouldn't poor parents have the same choice that President Obama had in deciding what school to send his children to.)

NYT ignoring religious liberties

In light of The New York Times blasting the religious exemptions in the new homosexual "marriage" law, one conservative attorney is pointing to the First Amendment.

The law provides exemptions for pastors, religious institutions and non-profit corporations affiliated with religious organizations, but The New York Times suggests those are unnecessary. So Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel Action advises the Times to take a closer look at the Constitution.

Mainly, he notes "our First Amendment rights of free speech and freedom of religious expression. This is troubling, but not surprising that The New York Times is once again publicly...editorializing about the need to trample on individuals' religious liberties," he laments.

U.S. Churches in Danger Thanks to Islam

With the recent airing of an al-Qaeda video that encourages Muslims to attack religious institutions, Christian churches are being warned.

In a video released by al-Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn, the American-born Muslim asks jihadists to quickly obtain guns and carry out terrorist attacks against the West. He states that Muslims are placed in the region to "do major damage to the enemies of Islam, waging war on their religion, sacred places, and things and brethren." ( U.S. churches in danger)

"That's very troubling," admits Steve Amundson of the Florida Security Council. "Adam Gadhan lived here in Southern California for a number of years. He studied under Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi at the Islamic Center of Orange County, which is in Garden Grove."

(Billy's Thoughts>>> We  are told by President Obama and were told again and again by President Bush that Islam is a peaceful faith. The truth is no matter what any leader tells us radical Islam is not a peaceful faith. )

The World Council of Churches has announced that it has reached a broad consensus on missionary conduct,

The World Council of Churches (WCC) has announced that it has reached a broad consensus on appropriate missionary conduct, but not all Christians agree with it. (WCC 'truth' strays from scripture)

Brian Tyndall of Global Outreach International is troubled by one section that instructs people to accept what other religions consider to be true and holy.

"The reality is that what we're called to accept as Christians as truth is the Word of God," he points out. "Jesus said in John 17: 17, 'Thy word is truth' -- and so the truth that Christians have been given is the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God."

Brian Tyndall (Global Outreach International)Since that is the only thing believers have been called to accept as truth, Tyndall opposes the call to accept what other religions teach is true and holy.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> No matter what the WCC says true missionaries that are committed to the Lordship of the Bible must tell others the truth. The Bible that the WC no longer believes says there are not many roads that lead to God but only one way and that is through Jesus Christ!)

Doctrinal conflict on assisted suicide

Roman Catholic bishops have traditionally adopted a strong stance against assisted suicide, but faculty members at some Catholic schools have not necessarily followed in those footsteps.

Patrick Reilly (CNS)Patrick Reilly, president and CEO of The Cardinal Newman Society, says: "There are several professors -- certainly a clear minority -- but there are a number of professors at Catholic colleges, particularly Jesuit universities, who have been for years advocating for assisted suicide and been instrumental in the assisted-suicide movement in helping with amicus briefs and in other ways, advocating for laws that would legalize it."

Reilly says while an argument can be made for academic freedom, adherence to school doctrine is essential for its professors.

Alec Baldwin: Bachmann inarticulate, full of s***,

“30 Rock” actor Alec Baldwin took to Twitter Tuesday evening to rant and rave about Rep. Michele Bachmann’s fundraising ability.  (someone to be feared...)

“Fear Bachman bc she is raising so much money,” Baldwin tweeted. “Anyone that inarticulate and full of s*** who is raising money that fast…is beholden to some mighty thuggish interests.”

(Billy's Thoughts>>> This man needs to focus on acting and stay out of politics.)

Teachers union backs Obama - Omaha.com

The board of directors of Nebraska's state teachers union has voted to support President Barack Obama for re-election in 2012.

Nancy Fulton, the president-elect of the Nebraska State Education Association, will carry that vote with her to Chicago this week, where the national union will consider a similar resolution of support.

The National Education Association is poised to become the first major labor union to endorse Obama for a second term.

“I anticipate that will be approved after a lot of heated debate,” said Fulton, 57, an elementary school teacher from Wilber-Clatonia schools who takes the helm of the state union Aug. 1. “In the end I think President Obama is supportive of education.

(Billy's Thoughts>>> I think this should show us that the teacher's union is run by the radical left. Sadly today the work of the NEA has little to do with the education of your children but more about pushing ideas of the radical left such as gay rights, right to abortion, and standing against school choice. As I have posted before it just might be time to remove your children from these government schools which have become a training ground for future members of the radical left. The Church World Needs to Stop Trying to Entertain Souls

On a recent Sunday, I found myself visiting a Protestant megachurch. Entering the "worship center" was eerily similar to being ushered down the aisle of a movie theater: floor lighting, padded chairs, visual effects shown on two large screens, and music over the speaker system.

A band appeared on stage to begin the service with live music. It was dark, and I thought I heard the audience singing along, but it was impossible to tell. And although I was seated in the front row, I sensed that the congregation was almost superfluous to the activity on stage. As in most forms of entertainment, the audience functioned as passive onlookers, participating only in an unseen, intensely personal way.

While the band played, song lyrics flashed across the two big screens, with words like great, God, and high figuring prominently. The musical performance was outstanding, even if the vocabulary was extremely limited. If the songs aimed at an emotional response, they were probably successful, but like so much contemporary worship music, they lacked any element of substantive teaching.

Immediately after the singing, without any announcement, much less Paul's words of institution (1 Cor. 11:23-26), the elements of the Lord's Supper were hurriedly handed around. Again, I was amazed at the blandly efficient nature of this activity. We could have been passing pretzels and soda pop. No one offered any guidance whatsoever on the sharing of this critical ordinance or sacrament. It seemed a strictly vertical encounter between each individual and God.

(Billy's Thoughts>>>>> The church world needs to get back to preaching what the word of God teaches not trying to entertain those who come in their doors.  The above  piece  can be found  at the Christianity Today web site right here.)
